Monsoon rains in Pakistan have taken away 81 lives and affected over three lac people in

different parts of the country.

According to Pakistan Red Crescent’s report, heavy rains started from the 15th of July and
continued throughout the week, in all over the country. Affected provinces include KPK, Gilgit
Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sind, Baluchistan and Punjab.

More than 630 villages have been affected, 1,855 houses and 2,05,366 acres of land are severely
damaged and destroyed, says Ahmed Kamal, the spokesperson of NDMA.

According to the officials, the Chitral district in KPK is among the worst affected areas and
thousands of homeless people are forced to live under the sky. The heavy flood has disrupted
access to roads, destroyed bridges as well as communication infrastructure and made it hard to
reach to the disturbed areas.

Local administration, NGOs and army have joined hands to help the affected areas. They have
arranged relief camps in every province and distributed more than 40,000 tents, food items,
blankets, hygiene kits and other essential items among the flood victims.

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued alert to government and other
concerned agencies for more (predictions on ) floods and heavy spells in different parts of the
country.
PTC: Every year heavy floods cause serious harm to the people of Pakistan. Government needs
to take serious steps and develop proper strategies to avoid massive damage in future.
