WRITING THE RESEARCH PAPER

A. PRELIMINARIES (FRONT MATTERS)


Title Page
The title page gives readers information about the contents of the research paper. It includes the title of
the study, the nature of research work (thesis or dissertation), the name and location of the institution awarding
the degree, the degree requirement being fulfilled, the full name of the researcher and the data of submission of
the research work.
THE TITLE OF THE RESEARCH WORK must contain the subject matter of the study, population
involved, locale of the study and when the data were gathered. It should be both informative and concise (10 to
15 words) and written like an inverted pyramid.
To formulate the title, the four W’s should be expressed in the research work.

“What,” refers to the topic;


“Who or Whom”, refers to the people involved;
“Where”, refers to the place or venue for the research’ and
“When”, refers to the duration of the research.

Who: Bank Employees
Where: Santiago City, Isabela
When: 2017- 2018

Approval Sheet
The approval and acceptance sheet is the form for the certificate of endorsement of the adviser for oral
examination, the approval of the panel of examiners, and the acceptance by the Head of the institution.

Abstract
The abstract is an executive summary of the research work. A good abstract should be accurate, self-
contained, specific and concise (not to exceed 120 words). The abstract includes the problem under
investigation, the participants and their characteristics (age, gender etc.), research design, instruments used, data
gathering procedures, the findings including statistical tools and significance/ difference levels, conclusions and
their implications and recommendations.

Acknowledgements
The acknowledgement page permits the researcher to express heartfelt gratitude to individuals who
significantly have contributed to the completion of the research work. It should not be too long (the most is 1½
page).

Dedication
The dedication page is devoted to persons from whom the researcher derived inspirations, purpose or
achievement. It should not be more than one page.

Table of Contents
The table of contents presents the main titles and titles of sub – topics. Chapter titles are all capitalized.
Subtitles are written in title case.

List of Tables
The list of tables is a separate page and provides the following information: the table number, the full
title of each table in title case format and the corresponding page number of each table.

List of Figures
The list of figures is a separate page for maps, charts, graphs or illustration other than tables which were
used in the research work.
