List 10 chemical reactions that have benefited your life today. Include the reasons
you think each was indeed a chemical reaction and not just a physical change.
(20 points) Think about processes in your body, processes in the atmosphere, or
chemical reactions that may be involved with any materials or products you have
used.
1. Cellular Respiration: This is a chemical reaction because it involves the breaking and forming of
chemical bonds.

2. Combustion of Gasoline: This is a chemical reaction because the hydrocarbon molecules in

gasoline are broken down and recombined with oxygen to form new substances

3. Photosynthesis: This is a chemical reaction because it involves the absorption of light energy by
chlorophyll and the conversion of that energy into chemical energy

4. Rusting of Iron: This is a chemical reaction because iron atoms combine with oxygen and
undergo a chemical change, forming a new compound with different properties.

5. Battery Discharge: This is a chemical reaction because the chemical composition of the
electrodes and electrolyte changes, resulting in the generation of electrical energy.

6. Neutralization of Acid and Base: This is a chemical reaction because the acid and base
molecules exchange ions to form new compounds with different properties.

7. Cooking: Various chemical reactions occur during cooking, these reactions involve the breaking
and forming of chemical bonds, resulting in changes in taste, texture, and appearance of food.

8. Aerobic Respiration in Microorganisms: This is a chemical reaction as it involves the oxidation of

organic molecules, releasing energy, and producing waste products.

9. Polymerization: Polymerization is a chemical reaction because covalent bonds are formed

between monomers, resulting in the creation of new substances with distinct properties.

10. Corrosion Prevention: The interaction between the coating or inhibitor and the metal surface
involves chemical reactions, forming protective layers or altering the chemical environment.
