Swapping the rear shock on a 2009 FSR XC Comp

I had a search on the archives but couldn't see much but has anyone done the above? I'm aware of
the propietary shock length (190mm x 45mm)

Who has done it and what did you swap it for? Did you get the shock customised to the correct
stroke? I've seen some great deals on 190mm x 50mm shocks and I'm wondering if I'd get away
with that without having to alter the stroke length???

Any advice appreciated.

Bob, this seems to be a common question. I've posted this as well. Looks as if some are using the
2" stroke with no issues. My concern is bottoming out the rockers. You can can a RP23 shimmed
from PUSH. Personally I'm not taking the risk because I've bottomed my shock a few times and
don't want to risk frame damage. See my post below.

http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.ph...ate+this+shock

also it seems to me if Fox, RS, Manitou etc... could make this size available they would have line at
the door for customers. I've checked with them all. X-Fusion has some instock and Fox has the
Triad in the Specialized specific sizing.

best of luck...

did you have to get bushès? to Rp2 7.5 X 2.00. Already have taken bike off 2 foot drop flat to flat and no
bottoming out or frame contact. Just rolled off seated landing on rear wheel. I weigh 170 lbs. It
used a lot of the travel but was fine. Well worth the upgrade. About $200 for everything, loctite
blue, spacers, reducers, bushings, bearing, shock and tool from mtbiker4life. The tool made things a

Top and bottom bushings? Have you installed yet? Just bought mine and am wondering about

New shock ride

03-02-2010 Rode the new shock for several hours this weekend and I am impressed again. I climbed some
BoardinBob technical stuff and cleared it for the first time on this bike. Climbing really shined and in the saddle
climbs too. Rear end stayed glued to the ground. Doesn't bunny hop as easy as it used to but I can
It's just arrived back from TF after having the stroke reduced. It has one set of bushings that aren't live with that. Rp2 is still no rp23 but its close. I still feel rp2 is a little soft in propedal but I think its
fitted to the eyelet. I'm assuming they're for the bottom eyelet. getting better with the breakin period. Propedal seemed a little stiffer after riding for a couple of
hours. I ran more pressure in the 2 (160) than the 23 (140). Still tinkering with it but really
Thinking about the top eyelet on the x-fusion unit, on the bike there's a bearing in the eyelet, two impressed.Did I mention I was impressed?

Interesting that you say your pro-pedal is soft. My shock is in medium tune for rebound and
Thanks BoardinBob, I was wondering too if I was needing a new reducer. I'm ignorant of this compression and the pro-pedal is very firm. Totally locked out on smooth terrain but kicks in when
because I have not removed my old shock yet to see whats involved or whats in there. I'm needed. I'm wondering if shortening the stroke length is the reason mine feels different to yours.
assuming there are reducers. Guess I'll wait till new shock gets here to remove X-Fusion shock
from bike. Wanna be able to ride it for now.

BoardinBob Mine is med too.The first ride after installation I couldn't tell the difference if PP was on or off. Even
off the bike pushing down with arms there was little or no difference. But after riding a few hours
If you look at the exploded views on page 14 here: last weekend I can feel the difference now. It seems to be much more pronounced when in PP.
Maybe I needed to break it in. Its still not as stiff as the Rp23. I run it on PP2 and midway

parts.
The bottom eyelet of the shock appears to have the bushings

The top eyelet has the bearing with the washers either side. It may be that I can reuse the upper

bearing and hopefully the bushings will fit too. I'm dropping it into my LBS tonight to get them to do BoardinBob
the fitting as I don't have the tools to remove the bearings and if i need new ones they can order
them in quickly.
The new shock is fantastic. Such an improvement. So much more controlled over rough stuff and
the increased rear traction on techy climbs is a massive boost.

Took my shock off last night just to look at the parts. Got a reply from Fox yesterday and am going
to try to order a reducer this morning. Also got in contact with a guy on here mtb4life and ordered I don't get it...I have ridden a Specialized bike with an RP23 for about a year...I just bought a 2010
a bushing tool and bushings to install the shock. It's going to be a couple of weeks till shock comes FSR XC Expert with the Xfusion...and I like the Xfusion better..never did like the RP23...thats just
in. I think its going to be simple, lbs probably could do it faster. But I want to wrench. May regret it. me though....I like what I perceive as BETTER control of the shock on the Xfusion
Ha ha. :D

I finally got my rp2 shock in from CRC. It took 3 weeks to get here. I live in the US. They are
probably really busy this time of the year. Installed last night and was a little dissappointed with the Quote:
propedal (soft) but the ride is much better. No more pogo feeling. Can't wait till this weekend to
really give it a go. Got a few pics of shock and installation parts from fox if any one wants to see.

Mine was the low end version of the X-Fusion shocks. If mine had compression and dampening
01-14-2011
adjustments on it I might not have replaced. But mine only had a single red lever on it for 00sable
compression I believe. When the lever was half way up the shock worked fine but it would'nt stay
there. I was always reaching down to adjust. Got very annoying on tech stuff and long climbs.
Mine still working great. Took some 2 to 3 ft flat drops too and used all the travel but no damage or
frame contact. Running more air pressure now than before, around 180 psi, to get a stiffer ride but
I'm always playing with air pressure. Big upgrade.

I rode my wife's bike all weekend and the rp2 really does transform the bike. It climbs so much
better with the rp2 than it ever did with the x-fusion shock. Now I need to decide if I want to keep
the Triad on my XC Pro, or swap it with the rp2!

Probably so.

supposedly the trick is to tighten the bolt to stop it slackening off but not sure myself how effective
it would be.

i just turn the lever fully on for steep/big climbs or leave it off.

Did you order the same parts in the photo above for the 2010 FSRxc Comp?

My Xfusion won't hold air and I need to rush to replace.

Mr. Lynch

I've got no real issues with mine on my 2010 comp. I suppose theres a chance that the x-fusion I used the part numbers listed above. My LBS had the 803-00-119 part in stock, but I had to order
shocks are slightly better than in 2009. the 803-03-034 from pricepoint:

I finally want to get this done on my 2009 fsr xc. Would I be better off getting an RP2 7.25x1.75.
Stock is 7.5x1.75. Or stick with RP2 7.5x2?

low, mid or high tune?
Tighten the small allen bolt keeps the lever from slipping and yes it does work. There are then
multiple settings for compression. I'm 190 lbs and I run the shock with highest compression other
than lockout and the air psi is set at 140. When it it's fully open it's too pogo stick like. I'm new to all this tech talk. Can somebody explain to me the differences between low, mid and
high tuned shocks? I'm planning on upgrading the rear shock on my 09 fsr to a Monarch RT3 and
i've seen some good prices on mid tuned ones. Will a mid tune work for an fsr?

01-14-2011 Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Mr. Lynch

I know it's an old thread, but I thought I'd add some info.
05-15-2017
I recently swapped out the crappy X-fusion shock on my wife's 2010 FSRxc COmp for a 7.5x2.0 cash68
RP2. What a HUGE difference. I've rode it a few times and I think I like it better than the Triad
shock on my 09 FSRxc Pro. I've had no bottom out or frame contact issues either, and this was
done on a small frame. Where do you order these bushings? I have a 2006/7 FSR XC, so the suspension is a little different
than in this thread. I tried pulling the bushings out of the stock X fusion but the ID of the shock
With the shock off the rear arms didn't contact anything until the cross tube in front of the rear tire holes is different.
would hit the seat post. With the RP2 completely bottomed out (with no air in it) there is still a good
1" or more or clearance. I don't think it is possible for any frame contact. I don't have any issues in
the area that was circled in the picture a few posts above. I think even a 7.5x2.25 shock would

clear without contact. Mr. Lynch

Doesn't have what I need at all.

I need four flanged bushings, 12.5ish in diameter, that reduce it down to the cross bolt, which is
maybe 3/8s?

05-17-2017

15.75mm width. 8mm bolt hold. 12.5mm diameter fox eye size.

Anybody?

05-17-2017
Mr. Lynch

You could try https://www.offsetbushings.com/

They can custom make any size you need and you cna get them in offset or standard spacing.
15.7x8 is listed under the commonly ordered size chart.

Universal cycle also has a bunch of options in that size
