There are many geniuses in many fields from past to present. One of them is Thomas Edison. He
was an American inventor. He attended school for only few months. One day Edison came home
and gave a paper to his mother. His mother's eyes were tearful as she read the letter out loud to
her child:"Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him and doesn't have enough good
teachers for training him. Please teach him at home. "
After many years after his mother had died, he discovered the truth. The real letter was:"Your
son is mentally ill. We won't let him came to school anymore."
His mother believed in him. He was taught reading,writing and arithmetic by his mother, who
used to be a teacher. Edison developed hearing problems at the age of 12. The reason was
untreated middle-ear-infictions. When he got older, Edison believed that his diffness allowed
him to avoid distraction on his work.
Although all this difficults, Edison exerted a tremendous influence on modern life, contributing
inventions such as the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and the motion picture camare,
as well as improving the telegraph and telephone.
Thomas Edison was a persistent man. He never give up. His mother believed in him and he
believed in himself. Everyone, at some time or another, needs someone to believe in them, even
if it is just for a moment.
