CONCEPT
When you decide which path to take after senior high school, you will be
required to compose an application letter to universities, colleges,
organizations, and companies that offer scholarships. Furthermore, the
application letter helps you to express your intention completely and
explains why they should accept you to the school you wish to be affiliated
to. However, it is not enough that you know about writing an application
letter, but it must have a well-written application letter for college admission.
Since you are trying to compete with other applicants who also wish to have
a scholarship. The reason why you need to familiarize yourselves with the
different features in encompassing the well-arranged information. In this
activity sheet, you will learn how you will be able to produce an effective

You have been wondering how your classmates, friends, or relatives are
in the school they are wishing to enrol in, you try to ask yourself how they
make it happen. This application letter for college admission will help you to
answer those questions. Writing an application letter for college must explain
why you want to attend such a college or university. You have to market
yourself. Write about your strengths, skills, and talents. You may also
emphasize some achievements you had in some clubs or organizations you

to produce an effective college application letter.

Eight characteristics in writing an effective Application letter

1. Clarity – This helps the writer to reflect the way of thinking of some ideas
to include in an application letter.
2. Conciseness – This conveys the ideas in a few words as much as
possible.
3. Correctness – This implies that the letter is free from error.
4. Concreteness – This characteristic shows how the writer becomes
specific and concrete to the words that he/she’s going to use.
5. Cheerfulness – This manifests the good rapport of the writer to his/her
application letter.
6. Courtesy – Using some words like “thank you”, “please” or any word of
gratitude.
7. Consideration- Emphasizes “your attitude”. Always think about your
reader’s needs and point of view.
8. Character- This reveals what type of person is the writer. Showing your
own style in writing an application letter.

Another thing that you have to consider in writing an application aside from
the eight c's are the formats used for letters and envelopes.

1. Pure Block Format – This type doesn’t use any indention. All entries are
justified.
2. Modified Block Format – The first sentence of every paragraph is
indented five spaces from the left. The rest of the parts follow the block
format.
