FOUR – SEMESTER B. A. PROGRAMME
IN
APPLIED STATISTICS
The B. A. Programme in Applied Statistics shall be of 24 credits in all, spread over two semesters;
each year consisting of two semesters. The titles of the papers, distribution of courses in semesters,
credits assigned to papers, etc., are given as follows :
1. Each theory and practical paper shall be of 100 marks. For evaluation, the overall structure of
the distribution of marks in a paper shall be such that 30 marks will be allotted to various
assessments during the semester and 70 marks shall be allotted to end semester examinations.
2. The assessment (sessional) in theory papers shall comprise of a class test of one hour duration
for 20 marks and 10 marks for regularity/assignment/viva/quiz/or any other similar test.
3. The 30 marks of sessional for practical papers shall be based on completion of the laboratory
exercises in due course of time/keeping up of practical record book/punctuality in the
class/viva to the practicals/any other relevant judgment.
4. There shall be ONE THEORY PAPER and ONE PRACTICAL PAPER in each semester.
The theory paper and the practical paper shall be of 4 credits and 2 credits respectively in
each of these semesters.
5. The theory papers shall be of THREE HOURS duration consisting of eight full length
questions in all out of which a student will be required to answer any five questions.
6. The PRACTICAL PAPER shall be of THREE HOURS duration. Out of 70 marks in end
semester examination, 50 marks will be assigned to the performance in practicals, 10 marks
on the practical record book and 10 marks on the viva-voce.
7. In all the theory papers emphasis will be on concepts and their applications. Rigourous
mathematical derivations should be avoided.
The title and contents of Theory as well as Practical papers shall be as follows :
