GERMALLOY
Product Description

GERMALLOY is a monolithic cast insert used for the late inoculation of ductile iron. GERMALLOY is
typically printed in the gating system or sprue well (in case of smaller blanks), or anchored in the
pouring basin in case of larger castings where larger inserts are applied. This type of late inoculation
provides improved nodule count and enhanced mechanical properties, as cast.

Liability for product advice and product-related information within the limits of the obligations arising from the collateral contractual agreements, if not expressly agreed upon otherwise. (01.2022)
Typical Features

• Increased ferrite matrix reduces costs needed for heat treatment

• Properly sized for the mold weight and pouring time
• Promotes high nodule count in ductile iron castings
• Zero inoculation fade
• Improved mechanical properties, as cast
• Consistent disolution process with no ahtmospehric contact

Nominal Analysis

Si % Al % Ca % Mg % Cer-MM % Fe %

Addition Rate
The addition rate will vary depending on the casting being poured. Small, thin-section castings are
typically inoculated at a 0.1% addition rate by pour weight. Large, heavy-section castings are
nominally inoculated at a 0.2% addition rate by pour weight. More detail can be found in one of the
Mold Inoculation with Monolithic Inserts (MIMI) brochures.

Product Storage

GERMALLOY should be stored in a dry, well ventilated place, and protected against water or dampness.
It must not be brought into contact with acid, acid fumes, or acid vapors. GERMALLOY can be stored
indefinitely in its original packaging provided the above conditions are met. Make sure that all employees
read and understand the precautionary labels before using the material. GERMALLOY is not a
hazardous substance as defined by transport regulations.
