Reflection Paper
Webinar on
“Intellectual Property Rights: Emerging Issues and Trends”

Intellectual Property Rights are the rights given to persons over the creations of

their minds. Intellectual Property (IP) is a work or invention that is the result of

creativity, such as a manuscript or a design, to which one has rights and for which one

may apply for a patent, copyright, trademark, etc. (Dictionary, Oxford Languages).

Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind. It can be an invention (patent/

utility model), a design (industrial design), a brand name (trademark, or literary and

artistic work (copyright). (IPOPHIL). Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the

mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and

images used in commerce. P is protected in law by, for example, patents, copyright and

trademarks, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they

invent or create. By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and

the wider public interest, the IP system aims to foster an environment in which

creativity and innovation can flourish. (WIPO). Creations of their minds means they own

it and someone should not take it. And it should be protected nowadays since it is

rampant and tolerated.

The famous “copy and paste ra gud” is rampant and it is really alarming, we

heard it randomly all over especially us teachers. We said it merely but we didn’t we

abused the right of the owner of the said creation.

The webinar serves as an eye-opener for me to be wise and be more aware on

how to protect my intellectual property. The stealing of ideas and concepts are rampant

in my fields. I remember one time that someone ask me to comply for a certain report

for a school reading program in my school. I think a lot to craft a title for the said

program made some description to it, so on and so forth, and the credit is not on me. I

don’t mind during that time since all I think is for compliance purposes and to help the

school. There are a lot of time that my idea was stolen, I’ve got offended but you know I

hate confrontation so I just slipped it away. Thanks for the webinar that helps me a lot

on how to protect my intellectual property right. I know now how to handle this kind

problem that seems really offensive in all way.

That’s is why it is important that we are aware on how to protect our intellectual

right and our we should stop practicing stealing someone else’s idea or take credit

someone’s else’s ideas and creation if not yours and if you love the idea learn to give

credits. We should remember that we can fool people but we cannot fool our great

Creator.
