Big topic: Education

Specific Question: How significant are cultural differences when studying in an international
educational context?

Thomas, D. (2016). The Multicultural Mind : Unleashing the Hidden Force for Innovation in Your
Organization: Vol. First edition. Berrett-Koehler Publishers.

In this book, Thomas conducted research to demonstrate the significance of a multicultural mind.
Additionally, he also clearly explained how organisations can leverage this ability in their
employees to gain a competitive edge, as well as how each of us might build a multicultural mind.
The author luckily received a lot of support from his colleagues, partners, and the Beedie School of
Business, Simon Fraser University, as well as the Australian Business School, and University of
New South Wales.

This book was published on February 15th, 2016 and the first edition has already been published.
Our topic is the significance of cultural differences in international education, and this model of
learning is growing more common in recent years. Despite the fact that this book was originally
published 7 years ago, the information contained in this book is still valid for the essay.

On top of that, this book offers knowledge that is relevant to our topic and contains a wealth of
valuable evidence for perspectives on multicultural minds from multicultural people and experts.
Mr Thomas thoroughly explained the benefits of a multicultural mindset for readers to easily follow
and comprehend. Thankfully, I'm honoured to be citing this work in my group essay.

The author of this book is David Thomas, the Beedie Professor of International Management at
Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, as well as the Editor of the Journal of International
Business Studies. Surprisingly, he is also the author of numerous academic works and 10 books,
including the best-selling Cultural Intelligence: Living and Working Globally (Berrett-Koehler
Publishers, 2009) co-authored with Kerr Inkson. Added to that, his book Cross-Cultural
Management: Essential Concepts (Sage Publications, 2008) has been awarded the 2008 R. Wayne
Pace Human Resource Development Book of the Year. With the information just mentioned, I
strongly believe that he is highly qualified to write on this topic.

The author’s arguments are supported by anecdotal evidence (his personal experiences and stories)
and many credible examples of famous people such as Muhtar Kent (chairman and CEO of the
Coca-Cola Company in 2009), Arianna Huffington (president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington
Post Media Group), etc. The book is written in formal language and provides no unbiased
viewpoints. The content is simple to read without any grammatical problems.

The purpose of this book is to clarify how a multicultural environment may foster multicultural
minds and creativity. Furthermore, it also helps us realise that globalization gives people more
chances to interact with others from diverse cultures. Through evidence and summary, Thomas
effectively proves the thesis statement and arguments. With these reasons and the details I presented
above, I am confident that this will be a valuable source for our group essay.

Şeker, E. (2016). Multiple language learning. Global Journal of Foreign Language Teaching.
6(4),196-205.
https://www.ceeol.com/search/article-detail?id=968259

In this study, Şeker analyzes the perception of multiple language acquisition. The aim of his
research is to examine the effects of learning multiple languages at the same time. In addition, with
regard to current linguistic studies and multilingual practices, he attempts to propose ways for
learning many foreign languages.

This article was published online on November 21st, 2016, and revised once. To be more specific, it
was selected and peer-reviewed by Assoc. Prof. Dr Ali Rahimi of Bangkok University in Thailand.
Despite the fact that this research focuses on discussing multiple language learning models, the
research still has some points that can be used as evidence in our essay to support what we
understand.

As previously stated, this study is little relevant to our topic because the author mainly explained
theories and procedures for learning a new language. However, the author has some considerable
information related to multilingual learning, I think this will be a reference that we can use
selectively in our group essay.

The author of this article is Emrullah Şeker, who is the English Language and Literature Lecturer at
Muş Alparslan University in Turkey. In addition to that, he penned different works about learning
foreign languages, particularly English. With this information, I strongly believe that Mr Şeker is
qualified to do research on this topic. The author’s contact information (such as email address) is
also presented in this article.

This study information is from internal research analysis and the data is collected from previous
studies and experiments of other researchers. Added to that, the research is logically explained and
supported by reliable evidence. Along with that, there are no biased opinions and grammatical
errors in this work. Thanks to the language used in this study is formal, which makes it easier for
readers to understand and catch up with the main idea.

The goal of this research is to examine how to efficiently learn multiple languages at the same time.
Furthermore, the author pointed out the advantages of multilingualism in dealing with the problems
of society. The intention of Mr Şeker in the article is specifically stated and strengthened by
unbiased information and results from the study. Considering these reasons, I believe that we will
have a valuable reference if we thoroughly analyze this source.
