INDIANA JONES – HOW BIG IS HIS IDOL?

Purpose:

To determine the weight of the idol in the picture in pounds using any
means necessary!

Materials:

The picture, your brain, any lab materials you need approved by the instructor!

Procedure and Limitations:

You may use any materials necessary; however, you must see the instructor at each step of your
procedure to receive materials and additional instructions! Make sure that you list all steps of your
procedure, and rationale for doing so, in your lab report!

Data:

Record all relevant data in a table format in your lab report.

Calculations:

Show ALL calculations that you followed in determining your conclusion. Present these
calculations in your lab book and on your white board. Make sure you use the limitations given to
you during the activity!

Conclusion:

1. Give a detailed, written rationale as to why you followed the procedure you did. Be sure to
include analysis of your math, calculations, and assumptions you made during the lab. Do
not recopy your earlier calculations – simply make reference to them!

2. What appeared to be so odd about the weight of the idol? So, what does density really tell
us about objects we may be looking at? Relate this answer about density to the idol and its
apparent or calculated weight!

LIMITATIONS:

You can only measure length using the unit of inches.
