SUBJECT: Package Window Viewing During Abnormal Operational Events

APPLICABLE PRODUCTS: All Product Lines

BACKGROUND
Most LM package doors include a small viewing window to inspect the interior of the enclosure
during normal operation. Any abnormal conditions, vibrations, noise or instrument readings should be
investigated only after engine shutdown. Sending personnel to investigate by viewing through the
window or open door could place personnel at additional risk in the unlikely occurrence of a major
event should an over-pressure condition cause the door to open rapidly.

RECOMMENDATION
The only safe method of inspecting during abnormal operational events is to shutdown the engine.
After shutdown but before entry, the package interior should be viewed through the window to
verify it is safe to enter. The package should not be entered if there is evidence of fire, electrical
discharge or other abnormal conditions.

Note: Refer to your O&M manual for specific Module Entry and Engine Troubleshooting Procedures.
