1. Discuss the role of strain effects in the genetic improvement of Channel catfish, relate
your answer to the study by Li, Robinson and Wolters. (Minimum of 50 words).

2. Should we fear Inbreeding? (Discuss your answer. (50 words).

- Inbreeding is the mating of individuals more closely related than the population average
(between relatives). Inbreeding is an important breeding program that can be used to
improve a population when it is planned and directed. unplanned and uncontrolled
inbreeding can ruin a population through something called "inbreeding depression,"
which is a decrease in growth and viability coupled with an increase in abnormalities. We
should not fear inbreeding because it helps

6. What is monosex production? How to induced Monosex production in fishes? (50

7. What are Single Nucleutide Polymorphism? (50 words).

- Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms or SNPs are single base pair positions in genomic
DNA at which different sequence derivatives (alleles) exist in normal individuals in some
population(s), wherein the most frequent allele has an abundance of 1% or greater.
Thus, single base insertion/deletion variants (indels) would not be considered to be
SNP’s. however, a number of properties attributed to SNP’s also apply to insertion or
deletion.
