Activity 2: A 10-year old boy who died hanging himself from a bunk bed apparently was mimicking the

execution of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein after he had previously watched a news report on
Saddam’s death.

“It appears to be accidental “the police said. “Our gut reaction is that he was experimenting.”

His uncle before the incident told the boy it was because Saddam was hung because he was real bad.
And the boy just said, “Ok”. And that was it. Clinical psychologist Bischop of California sais Children of
that boy’s age mimic risky behaviors they see on TV without realizing the dangers. He said TV appeared
to be the stimulant in the Boy’s death.

1. What do authorities say might be the reason why the boy hanged himself? What facts made
them give this reason?
- The authorities made a conclusion that the cause of death was experimenting. The
latest things that the 10 year old boy did was watching the execution of former Iraqi
leader Saddam Hussein, thus the authorities think that the 10 year old boy was
mimicking the execution.

2. Comment on the opinion of the clinical psychologist.

- I do believed that children at that age are curious, thus it is not impossible that cause of
death of the little boy was due to impersonating. Here we can learn that children should
be guided while watching T.V. because at this age, children has strong desire to try
anything.

3. What do you think is the effect of television on the behavior of young people (preschool to
College)? Cite specific examples.
- Preschool – the addiction of TV, will start here. For instance, if the parents doesn’t limit
the screen time for the children, they will get addicted to it.

- Elementary- this is the time where children has the desire to explore. Children should
also be guided, because mostly they imitate what they have seen on the TV. Parents
should be mindful in the selection of channel. What the children sees on the TV can
influence on how they behave.

- High School- Addiction is also prevalent here. TV can waste time on high school
students. Mostly students are distracted with their studies when they are watching TV.

- College- Doesn’t mean the individual is already a college student, they don’t have to
mind their screen time consumption. TV can also cause visual impairments, due to
radiation.
