 Fire and Life Safety Auditing Techniques

INTRODUCTION
National Safety Council, India (NSCI) has conducted number of Fire
safety audits of different occupancies such as offices, hospitals,
commercial buildings, as per National Building Code and other
standards. NSCI has also done pioneering work in carrying out
Safety Audits for organizations as per IS 14489:1998 on “Code
of Practice on Occupational Safety & Health Audit” to check the
compliance with the Indian Statutory requirements and Standards
on Occupational Safety & Health.
Presently there is a need for trained resources in fire safety
auditing techniques. Utilising extensive industry experience and
acknowledging the aspects of fire safety standards. National
Safety Council has developed this course on “Fire and Life Safety
Auditing Techniques”, with a view to build capacity in fire and life
safety auditing.
National Safety Council, India (NSCI) is happy to announce its

ABOUT THE COURSE
Just as air and water, survival of human life without fire is
unimaginable. However, fire can be a boon as well as a bane.
The ability to control the use of fire is an art towards improved
industrial development. Fire, the oxidation process is accompanied
by the evolution of heat and light in varying intensities leading
to incidents and catastrophes damaging life, property and
environment. The risk of damage due to fire depends on the
combustible material available, their physical arrangement, the
geometry of building, likelihood of ignition, etc. The risk is also
controlled by fire protection measures in place, which relate to
both fire prevention & fire control.
Fire Safety Audit is a tool for systematic evaluation of how well
the operation and maintenance procedures of fire prevention
and fire-fighting facilities match with design intent and statutes.
Due to increase in incidences of fire, some of the authorities have
made it compulsory to carry out fire safety audit in commercial
establishments too. The Fire Safety Management Audit process
involves an in-depth examination of an organisation’s fire safety
management system(s) and associated arrangements. The audit
focuses on the key aspects of managing fire safety within the
workplace and offers a structured path for continual improvement
towards best practice status.

Merit certificate will be issued to those participants who
successfully passed the tests as per NSCI criteria and participation
certificate to remaining participants will be awarded and will be
sent to their addresses. Each certificate will be having unique
identification number consisting of four digits of participants
aadhar card. Participants are requested to provide soft copy of
aadhar card while enrolment for the course.
