Sir Richard Branson has proved to be a strong and successful leader. He has built his company
into a global empire that brings in over $20 billion a year. Although he has made some very
public business mistakes, his successes have far outweighed his business failures. One of his
many successes has been creating a company where employees at all levels feel valued within
the company. He has eliminated the need for unions by providing for his employees and keeping
them happy. This has also enabled him to successfully promote from within and build the
business leaders he needs to run a globally successful company. Branson’s methods and
philosophies have been widely criticized because they are quite different from many of his
counterparts. However, it cannot be disputed that Branson has built a highly successful business.
Although he runs things differently than many others, he clearly demonstrates that different can
produce great results.

business as usual to what look at what it is our customers wants, and what is the industry needs,

Virgin will invest in a central team to manage the new company. It will draw on resources from
Virgin to help promote the scheme. In addition, Virgin Startup has the support of Virgin’s UK
companies including: Virgin Trains, Virgin Money, Virgin Media, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin
Active, Virgin Care and its not-for-profit foundation Virgin Unite. These companies will provide
access to staff mentors, marketing and media support, business advice, as well as space to host
networking and promotional events. Sir Richard Branson commented: "I started my first business
with a handful of coins out of a phone-box at school, but it was the £300 from my mum that
really kick-started our Student magazine and sparked the Virgin adventure 40 years ago. Today,
young people need that same help and I believe Virgin Startup will provide it - with access to
early capital, strong mentorship, advice and promotion. We look forward to helping launch
thousands of new businesses as a delivery partner of The Start-Up Loan Company across the UK
in years to come." Chairman of Virgin Money Giving and Spring Films will chair the new
Company providing strategic guidance on the range and scope of the assistance to young
entrepreneurs. Virgin Startup also plans to develop a widespread mentoring programme and a
series of regional events to promote new businesses and showcase established entrepreneurial
expertise.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is evident Richard Branson have proven through time his effective leadership

skills have allowed him to succeed and also pick himself up after failures. We have learnt that a

leader should not only depend on technical skills but also be flexible and be adaptable to today's

dynamic world which is ever changing. The ability to grab opportunities once it arises is

important because in the business industry, there's a high level of competitiveness, if a leader

were to oversee such a chance; they face the potential of losing millions. if one of the customers

has a bad experience on Virgin trains, they might have different views for the rest of the Virgin

brands. Majority of customers know that each of the Virgin business units are managed different

and are vastly diversified into different products and services. Therefore each of the business

units will have their own strategic plans according to their target market and hopefully this

should convince the customers to continue to use their products and services. The important

issues arise in the future when it's time for Branson to move away from Virgin, this could mean

the end of the Virgin Group. To solve this potential problem, new management, marketing and

promotional styles can be used that are not related to Branson's techniques and see whether these

are successful. Therefore, Virgin is a successful company that applies their own strategies

according to their target market under the direction of Richard Branson. Virgin are able to

diversify into new markets mainly through joint ventures, thus able to increase their market

shares in respective markets. However, the question arises when it's time for Richard Branson to

Part Company with the Virgin Group, how will they cope and whether they can maintain a

competitive edge in the markets that they are competing in.
