A. Higher Quality Education

A.1 A pool of highly specialized competent professionals

Every Higher Education Institution (HEI), sets its own requirements in
achieving higher quality education. To achieve such goal, a pool of highly
competent, knowledgeable faculty who are experts in their field of specialization
are being hired. Hence, the department is following an institutionalized system or
procedure in the recruitment and selection of newly hired faculty members.

A.1.1 Faculty Recruitment and Selection

The Department of Accountancy follows a system of faculty recruitment
which is summarized below:
• The Human Resource Management Officer sends letters of
invitations through bulletins of information to universities and
colleges.
• A notice from the HRMO is sent to the applicant to report for
demonstration teaching and interview. The applicant is notified when
and where to do the demo-teaching and interview.
• The screening committee composed of seven (7) members is as
follows:
o Chairman- appointed by the President
o Vice-Chairman- appointed by the President
o Director for Instruction
o Dean or Head of the College or Unit where the vacancy
exists
o Human Resource Management Officer
o A representative of the faculty and Academic Staff
Association
o A. ranking faculty or Academic Staff member in the
discipline involved to be recommended by the department
concerned.
• All the applicants undergo the demo-teaching and interview and are
then ranked based on the educational qualifications, teaching
experience and other factors.
• The chairman endorses his/her recommendation through channel.

BS ACCOUNTANCY
• The president goes over the pertinent papers of the applicants and
makes the final hiring.
• The office of the Dean will be informed of the action of the President.
The Dean, in turn, informs the Department chair of the hiring.
• The Dean of the College orients the newly hired faculty regarding
dress code, grading system and policies of the college.

C. mode of overload teaching compensation

The Sultan Kudarat Polytechnic State College Board of Trustees

(BOT) Resolution No. 316, on the Guidelines for Determining Faculty
Workload and Honorarium for Overload, dated May 117, 1999, states

that teachers shall be compensated for subjects assigned to them in excess
of the required subject loading every semester.
It is for this very reason that this proposal for the conversion of
semestral overload to service credit is envisioned. Through this scheme,
teachers will have a fair share of what they are supposed to get in exchange
of the monetary value which they are supposed to receive. Overloads shall
be compensated every semester and summer. The computation of the
overload pay is in accordance with the DBM approved overload pay. A
subject which has 3- unit credit has an equivalent of 54 contact hours per
semester.

A.4 Effective teaching strategies and learning experiences

There are different ways and methods of handling a class. The choice of
methodology depends on the lesson and learners’ level of understanding. Hence,
effective combination of strategies will be a tool for a deeper and concise
understanding and appreciation of the subject matter. The following are applied
and practiced by the faculty of Accountancy department, to wit:
• The use of a computer-aided instruction.
• The faculty adapted common syllabus format with the minimum ten-
teaching strategies.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT – OPTIONAL 162

BS ACCOUNTANCY
• Encourage team-teaching in courses with varied subjects.
• Inviting speakers/lecturers with specific expertise.
• Application and innovating the use of Blended Learning.

A.5 State-of-the-art instructional facilities

The convenience of the faculty of the Accountancy department in teaching
incorporates the use of latest technologies in their strategies. Learning among
diverse students is highly effective when teaching is aided with new technologies
and sophisticated state of the art instructional facilities. The Accountancy
department ensures to acquire and upgrade more instructional facilities to
overcome the traditional barriers to global education and meet the demand of 21 st

Accredited Curricular programs
Higher education accreditation is a type of quality assurance process under
which services and operations of post-secondary educational institutions or
programs are evaluated by an external body to determine if applicable standards
are met. If standards are met, accredited status is granted by the agency.
The accountancy department aims to meet the general standards set by
AACUP, BOA and CHED that encourages high maintenance of standards of
education. The program has met the general standards set by AACCUP being
granted with level three (3) phase 1 accredited status and a Certified Program
Compliant of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This attests that the
program supplicates highly sustainable educational standards and provides
opportunities for institutional growth.

Scholarship Program
Scholarships provide an opportunity for the faculty of the department to earn
an education. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend trainings, seminars and
apply for scholarship for their professional vertical enhancement. Applications are
being channeled to the departments where it is more applicable.

A.8 Faculty Attendance to Seminars and Services
Faculties are potential factors in education. They are responsible for shaping the youth through quality education. It is imperative that
faculty of the department acquire the totality of the information and qualities of education through seminars and trainings. Faculty members are
encouraged to attend trainings to implement excellent programs and provide the learners effective teaching learning situations. Also, participation
to conferences either as participant or resource speaker is one of the top priority of the university. This is an opportunity to achieve maximum
effectiveness in instruction and to be able to work efficiently and respond rapidly to changes within the organization. This can be an avenue for
the department to be able to compete not only with other universities but rather globally.
