ABSTRACT

The Hospital Management System is an application for assisting a receptionist in

managing a record of patients in a hospital. The system would provide basic set of
features to add/update patients, add/update doctors, and manage record of patients and to
help in making bills of patients.

Hospital management system is a typical management Information system (MIS), its

Development include the establishment and maintenance of back-end database and front-
end application development aspects. For the former require the establishment of data
consistency and integrity of the strong data security and good libraries. As for the latter
requires the application fully functional, easy to use and so on.

Here system-based technology offers many services in almost every field. Almost
everything can be done on computers which help to reduce the amount of tasks, cost, and
efforts. The project helps to implement an idea of such a system-based platform that
make many medical/hospital procedures digital using computers, networking technology
that can be very important in implementing the functionality of hospital management.
This will help in management of patients, managing the schedules of the doctors,
maintaining the records of patients which can be accessed throughout hospital. Storing,
managing, communicating, analyzing and updating the patient details digitally. Thus, by
implementing this computer-based application using customized application
programming we can manage many tasks that are usually time consuming and
inconvenient.
MOTIVATION

The real motivation for the hospital management system project is to make easy process
of all the management process like patients’ registration, billing, doctors’ appointment,
doctor’s prescription, etc. We always see that to find out the patient’s history, the user has
to go through various registers. This results in wastage of time. So, by this system it will
become easy to manage all process. So now by taking the motivation of this scenario
which was regularly done in hospitals we are designing this system which can be
benefited for the patients and hospital staff. So, we'd like to possess this system which
help hospital to do work fast and effective.
INTRODUCTION

Overview:
The hospital Management system includes registration of patients, sorting their
details into the system, and also computerized billing. The software has the facility
to give a search facility for every patient and the staff automatically. It includes the
search facility to know the current status of each room. User can search about the
doctor whether they are available or not and the details of a patient. The hospital
management system can be entered using a username and password. It is accessible
either by an administrator or receptionist. Only they can add data into the database.
The data can be retrieved easily. The interface is very user-friendly. The data is well
protected for personal use and fast data processing. Hospital Management System is
designed for multispecialty hospitals, to cover a wide range of hospital
administration processes. Hospital Management System is a useful to improve the
management of hospital in the area of clinical process analysis and activity-based
costing. Hospital Management System enables you to develop your organization and
improve effectiveness and quality of work.

Objectives:

i. To implement this application, we will require computers in each room of hospital

for e.g. All the wards of hospital should have a computer to update the details about
patient, all the departments like MRI, CT scan, X-ray rooms should have computers
to store the reports on the system database and all these computers should be in
network and it should have an updated browsers and internet connection.

ii. Every patient should be registered, and every person who handles the patients in
some or the other way should have a login access to the system so that person can
update about the patient relatively. All the doctors should have a system with
internet connection and connected with the other hospital computers.

iii. This web application can be developed by using object-oriented programming

languages for front end like .net, C, HTML, CSS which will provide the latest
technology in developing quite user- friendly user interface so it is very easy for all
the user to understand the system.
Advantages of hospital management System:

Disadvantage of hospital management System:

The data stored is prone to cyber hacks. ...

Costly and Expensive.
Complicated to operate.
Online Systems require high-speed internet connectivity.
Risk of computer virus.

Need for Hospital management System

A Hospital management system is a software that uses to maintain the record of the
hospital. It contains work like the number of available appointments in the hospital, the
number of appointments done or billing of patients and maintaining the record, etc.
Hospital Management Systems is software that helps to maintain a database that is useful
to enter new patients & maintain patient’s record, with the respective appointment dates.
Moreover, it also reduces the manual record burden of the Receptionist.

Hospital management system allows the receptionist to maintain hospital resources in a

more operative manner that will help to save their time. It is also convenient for the
receptionist to manage the process of books allotting and making payment. Hospital
management system is also useful for patients as well as a receptionist to keep the constant
track of the availability of all vacant rooms in a hospital.
FUTURE SCOPE
1. Create distinct product users based on their roles and permissions.
2. Authenticate users at their login.
3. Provide the list of patients.
4. Facility to reserve appointment that are available.
5. A status page for all patients to view appointment reserved by them.
6. Facility to cancel the appointment of any patient.
7. A status page of all patients to view services used by them, their individual bills and
their date of appointment.
8. An interface to view and edit the own profile.
9. Provide method for adjusting account settings such as passwords.
10. Mechanism to reset the password in case user forgets it. Providing interface to Add
ordelete record to staffs.
FEASIBILITY STUDY

•Financial Feasibility – The assessment typically analyses the economical scope of the
project including the investments and the return on investments and the time it would
take to reach the set target. The healthcare analysts will help the management in
allocating the resources and selectively invest on the different aspects of the project
where the outcome has greater scope.

•Operational Feasibility – The study involves recognizing and streamlining the operations
in order to make them function seamlessly. The experienced healthcare consultants study
the operational feasibility as on how effectively the operations could be structured. This
plan includes identifying and finding solutions for the bottlenecks, loopholes, functional
gaps and, internal and external communication challenges.

•Technical Feasibility – Focusing on the development of the technical aspects is

imperative for healthcare success. The professionals will help the management in
determining whether the technical resources are on par with the industry and the skill-set
of employees is capable enough to make full use of the technical support. This also
involves evaluating the healthcare equipment that includes medical equipment, hardware,
software and all other electronic communication mechanism and listing the requirements
from the perspective.

•Legal Feasibility – The healthcare practices in India and all over the world are expected to
follow their own guidelines that have been provided by their respective government
bodies. The healthcare legal experts from the consultancies support the management in
legal feasibility study that includes whether the hospital policies are compatible with the
local law, the infrastructural and operational aspects are complimenting the guidelines
and the medical qualification of the staff in order to provide medical care as per law.
Besides, the healthcare consultants also help in getting all the required paperwork done.
Every healthcare project involves time, investment and resources and feasibility study
ensure that the management has a clear idea in order to invest right in the right time. The
advanced analysis and exact scenario of the future market will always help in taking the
right steps, avoiding any moments that are uncertain for the objective of the practice.
PROPOSED APPROACH

At present or traditional Hospital Management system in any hospital is time

consuming and lengthy process. Patients goes to hospital and they have to go through
various process for treatment. After these patients goes to billing counter and patients
have to wait there in queue where the billing is generated manually by receptionist,
this process is more time consuming and lengthy. To overcome such drawbacks, we
design a Hospital Management System. The methodology of project is consisted of
four modules - Admin module, Doctor module, Sister module, Employee module. If
the patient enters into hospital first, they have to register their name at reception
counter. According to their problem they can take appointment of particular specialist.
The name of all the patients will display on the digital display screen which is placed
outside of all the department. For display the name of patients this system uses queue
technique to display the name one by one. In this Employee first register and login in
employee module then register name of patients and give initial treatment to patients
if there is any emergency then they send patients to specialist according to their
problem otherwise they generate bill with prescription. In emergency condition
patients may be admitted to ward or ICU that process handle by sister for that sister
has to register and login with username and password. In this module there is a
searching facility to know the current status of each room according to that bed is
allotted to particular patients. This module also manages medication of patients
according to doctor’s prescription. It also handles proper diet of patients. In doctor
module doctor has to register and login. This module contains specification of doctor.
In this doctor can update patients report. Admin module contain admin registration
and admin login. It also contains user creation, manage information and user deletion.
METHODOLOGY

Problem Definition:

• Lack of immediate retrievals: - It is very difficult to retrieve information and to find

particular information like- E.g. - To find out the patient’s history, the user has to go
through various registers. This results in wastage of time.

• Lack of immediate information storage: - The information generated by various

transactions takes time to be stored at right place.

• Lack of prompt updating: - Various changes to information like patient are difficult to
make as paper work is involved.

• Error prone manual calculation: - By manual calculations error can be occur and take a lot
of time this may result in incorrect information. For example, calculation of patient’s bill
based on various treatments.

• Preparation of accurate and prompt reports: - It is difficult task to collect information

about patients from various register.

• Carry out web-based surveys of ILS curricula, as they relate to coverage of LMSs and related
topics, and of ILS professionals, to determine their workplace needs for education in this
specific area.

• Invite selected respondents from to test the teaching materials being developed for the range
of hosted LMSs.

• Carry out a literature review of both the developing demands on LMSs in terms of the search
facilities they offer and on practical methods of teaching basic interface design, and develop
new teaching materials, using as testers people selected from.
• In this to collect the information for the exits Hospital System. To study about
the introduction, Problem of the system. To analyze the aim of the project. To
collects the actual information about the hospital from the original record of the
organization. To decide the step of the solution of analyze problem using the
decided methodology and technology of the project. To design the interface of
the project using the design interface software (Visual basic 6.0). Designed
interface is user-friendly.
