Components of the

Universal Screening
Process
Screening Windows

• Screening windows refer to the time set aside for assessing our students’ progress with the CORE
curriculum.
• Students are assessed on specific skills that predict future success.
• Each grade level listed the assessments being used for the universal screening process. Please
double-check the list to be sure it is accurate.
Universal Screening Assessments
• Results from these assessments should be compiled into user friendly reports prior to analysis.
RTI/AIS Deadline

• After students complete the screening assessments, the data must be analyzed to determine who
needs academic intervention.
• Identify those in the 20th percentile
• Identify skills that need to be addressed
• Create an intervention plan
• Name an interventionist (and student group)
• Notify parents with letter and summary of services
• The steps listed above must be finished by the deadline. The new intervention cycle will start the
following week.
NOTE: The spring screening and final AIS deadline of the year will determine the intervention groups that will start the next school
year. These students will receive 7 weeks of intervention prior to the fall screening.
Intervention Cycles

• There are three intervention cycles within a school year.


• Fall Intervention Cycle – Approximately 7 weeks long, based on the spring screening results from
year before
• Fall/Winter Intervention Cycle – Approximately 16 weeks long, based on fall screening results
• Winter/Spring Intervention Cycle – Approximately 16 weeks long, based on winter screening results
• During this time, students are receiving research-based interventions targeted at a specific skill. Their
progress is monitored regularly (weekly, biweekly).
• Parents are updated regularly on their child’s progress. (Standard progress report coming soon!)
Pulse Checks

• There will be 1-2 pulse checks throughout the course of an intervention cycle.
• A pulse check is intended to determine whether an intervention is effective. (Checklist coming soon!)
• Is the student making progress?
• Is it enough progress?
• Has the student been in attendance?
• If the student is making great progress with the intervention, he/she should continue.
• If not, the interventionist should try a new intervention targeting the same skill.
• This will involve updating the intervention plan and informing the parents.

*These students will be the students who begin the next school year with intervention.
