DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS

Viral Meningoencephalitis- is an acute inflammatory process involving the


meninges and, to a variable degree, brain tissue.
RULE IN RULE OUT
Non productive cough temperate climates occur in the summer and
Loss of appetite fall.
Fever
Generealized weakness nonspecific febrile illness of a few days’
duration
headache
hyperesthesia
Headache is most often frontal or
generalized
Fever
nausea
vomiting
photophobia
pain in the neck, back, and legs are
common

Mental dullness progressing to stupor in


combination with bizarre movements
convulsions

Focal neurologic signs may be stationary,


progressive, or fluctuating.

Brain abscesses
RULE IN RULE OUT
Non productive cough common in children between 4 and 8 yr and
Loss of appetite neonates
Fever
Generealized weakness
low-grade fever
headache
lethargy
vomiting
severe headache
seizures
papilledema
focal neurologic signs (hemiparesis)
coma
nystagmus
ipsilateral ataxia
dysmetria
vomiting
headache
