1. English is becoming the most prominent language in the world.

Do the advantages of having only one language in the world outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge
or experience. Write at least 250 words.

It is a fact that English has become popular worldwide in recent years. Although some
drawbacks can be seen from having only one language in the world, I believe that the benefits
are more significant.

On the one hand, it is clear that having only one language in the world would have some
disadvantages. The most important disadvantage of depending on a single language is cultural
variety will be harmed by language globalization. Because a great deal of culture, beliefs,
lifestyle, and thinking are contained in each natural language, all other riches are lost if there is
only one. For instance, Vietnamese people place a high value on values like filial piety, respect
for people of authority, and kindness. To reflect this, Vietnamese has a large number of
pronouns and honorifics. English is significantly different from Vietnamese, it is unable to use
all the numerous degrees of names to express itself.

The most obvious advantage of employ a specific language is communication would be easier.
This reduces the language barriers and makes it easier for individuals to express their views. For
instance, learning the local language is necessary when traveling abroad in order to
communicate with natives. Furthermore, it will be difficult for individuals who don't speak a
foreign language to understand it. As a result, the use of a single language allows us to improve
our communication abilities without worrying about being misunderstood.

In conclusion, there are drawback of having only one language. However, it seems to me that its
advantages would be more important regarding communication would be easier.
