Graduate Admissions Personal Statement

In the midst of a challenge lies opportunity. This mantra has always meant a lot to me,

especially when I was faced with many problems in my life. I have always had a strong desire to

assist and collaborate with people. Faced with my own troubles at a young age, I became wise

beyond my years. I've worked my way up the academic ladder, and I now have a bachelor of arts

in social work and an associate of science in liberal arts. I want to continue my education and get

a Master’s degree in Social Work so that I can assist others prepare for change and eventually

accomplish both my short and long-term objectives. My professional objectives are divided into

two categories: short-term and long-term.

In the short term, I hope to work my way up and become lead social worker at my current

place of work the Phoenix Rehab Nursing Home. My present situation has sparked a fire within

me to pursue a career in the area of family studies and to educate myself more on the subject.

One major aspect that I have discovered to be shared by each and every one of my clients is the

sentiment that they all wish they had been better prepared for the challenges they faced. This

reveals to me that the issues that my customers are facing may have been avoided entirely if they

had implemented certain preventative measures in the first place. This takes me to my ultimate

objective, which is to get a degree in social work with a concentration in family studies.

My interest in this program stems from the mission of your program, which is to improve

human well-being and promote human rights as well as social and economic justice for people

who are disadvantaged in order to achieve a society that is equitable, healthy, and productive.

This mission is highly congruent with the values that I hold. By participating in this mission, I

will be able to get insight into how I may contribute to the amelioration of the living

circumstances of marginalized communities. In my experience, Yeshiva University places a

significant amount of emphasis on respecting.

This program will put my background as a certified nursing assistant and a social worker

to good use, since I will be rotating among many exciting research teams. As a result of my

ability to think creatively and take charge of a situation, I believe I will be able to make the team

atmosphere more comfortable and welcoming.

Overall, I am interested in social work because I want to utilize my training to encourage

others to realize their full potential and capitalize on their unique strengths. I would want to help

others figure out how to fix their own issues and provide them the tools they need to become

self-reliant in the process. By using my talents and experience in the field of social services, I

will be able to assist others in reaching their full potential. I see being a social worker as more

than simply a job opportunity. I am certain that if I attend Yeshiva University, I will be

immersed in the most conducive learning atmosphere possible for me to reach my objective.
