8.1 Investment issues for large infrastructures at national level

• “Independent power projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Lessons from five countries.” WB,
2016. This study evaluates the experience of IPPs and identifies lessons that can help
African countries attract more and better private investment. At the core of this
analysis is a reflection on whether IPPs have in fact benefited Sub-Saharan Africa, and
how they might be improved. Only part 1 is to be considered “mandatory”.

criticality of electricity networks – both transmission and distribution – to achieve
universal access and a clean energy transition. Grids4Africa is a recent initiative to
promote investment in electricity network in support of the objectives of SDG7.
