“I-Witness: Women Warriors” by Sandra Aguinaldo is a moving documentary that showcases the stories
of three women who have chosen to join the armed struggle in the Philippines. Through their
experiences, the documentary highlights the challenges faced by women in combat and their
unwavering commitment to their cause.

What struck me the most about the documentary was the bravery of these women in the face of danger
and adversity. Ka Maria, for example, had to leave her family behind and live in the mountains, while Ka
Julie had to deal with the constant threat of capture or death by government forces. Ka Sandi had to
undergo rigorous military training and constantly move to avoid detection.

Despite these challenges, the women warriors remained committed to their struggle for justice and
equality. Their stories serve as a reminder that women have always played a crucial role in social and
political change, even in the most difficult and dangerous circumstances.

The documentary also highlights the unique challenges faced by women in combat, including sexism and
harassment from their male comrades. Despite these obstacles, the women warriors refused to be
intimidated and proved that they were just as capable and determined as their male counterparts.

Overall, “I-Witness: Women Warriors” is a powerful and inspiring documentary that sheds light on the
courage and strength of women who have chosen to fight for their beliefs. It serves as a reminder that
women’s contributions to the struggle for freedom and justice must be acknowledged and celebrated.
