Reflection Paper

The documentary “I-Witness: Women Warriors” by Sandra Aguinaldo is a powerful testament to the
strength and resilience of women who have chosen to join the armed struggle in the Philippines.
Through the stories of Ka Maria, Ka Julie, and Ka Sandi, the documentary highlights the challenges faced
by women in a male-dominated field and their unwavering commitment to their cause.

What struck me the most about the documentary was the sacrifices that these women had to make in
order to fight for their beliefs. Ka Maria, for example, had to leave her family behind and go into hiding
for years, while Ka Julie had to face the constant threat of being captured or killed by government
forces. Ka Sandi had to undergo rigorous military training and was constantly on the move to avoid
detection.

Despite the risks and challenges, the women warriors remained committed to their struggle for justice
and equality. Their stories serve as a reminder that women have always been at the forefront of social
and political change, even in the most difficult and dangerous circumstances.

The documentary also sheds light on the unique challenges faced by women in combat, including sexism
and harassment from their male comrades. The women warriors, however, refused to be deterred by
these obstacles and proved that they were just as capable and courageous as their male counterparts.

Overall, “I-Witness: Women Warriors” is a powerful and inspiring documentary that showcases the
bravery and determination of women who have chosen to fight for their beliefs. It serves as a reminder
that women’s voices and contributions to the struggle for freedom and justice must be acknowledged
and celebrated.
