If.

gas expands and does external work W, an amount of heat @ has to be

supplied to the gas in order to produce an isothermal change since, transfer of
heat from one place of another require time, hence to keep temperature of the
{995 constont, the expansion must take place slowly,

Isotherm,

The curve representing cn isothermal process is called isotherm,

3) lsobarie Process

‘An isobaric processis one where the pressure ofthe system (otten a gas) stays
cconstont,

“Wo! means the same, and ‘baric' means pressure. Pressure is elated to the
‘amount of force that the molecules apply fo the walls of the container.
Explanation

Imagine that you have « gas inside @ movable piston and you heat that gos up.
By heating the gos up you make the molecules move faster, which would
‘normaly increase the pressure, But at the same time the piston expancs,
Increasing the volume anc giving the molecules more room to move. Since the
‘walls of the contciner are new bigger, the pressure can stay the same even
though the molecules are moving faster. That makes t en isobaric process
