PORTFOLIO 2

Ex1. Parapharse/56:
The seabed is believed to hold over three million shipwrecks resulting from storms and accidents
throughout history. These wrecks offer valuable insights into ancient civilizations' culture,
technology, and trade patterns. However, most wrecks have been too deep for traditional research
methods such as scuba diving, which is limited to depths of 50 meters and near coastal areas
where wrecks are often damaged. Manned submarines have explored only a few deep-sea sites
due to their high costs, leaving lesser-known wrecks unexplored. However, the introduction of a
new type of mini submarine, known as the automatic underwater vehicle (AUV), has changed
the situation. These small and cost-effective crafts are capable of autonomous movement without
the need for an expensive mothership for control. As a result, an American archaeology team is
now planning to use an AUV to explore an area of sea north of Egypt, which served as the
approach to a major trading port 4,000 years ago.
