My name is Jenni Chandler.

This is my second year of teaching but

my sixth year in Education. Being an educator is my second career
and my true passion. In my first career, I was in the medical field for
twenty one years. I worked as a Radiology Technician and as a
Medical Assistant. When COVID stopped the world, I realized that
life is too short to not be doing something that you love and are
passionate about. I had already been substitute teaching in my
daughter’s school for about two years and was ready to make the
change from medical to education. My husband and I have been
married for 18 years and we have four beautiful daughters. Two sets
of twins. Our oldest girls are 12 and our youngest are 11. They are
our whole world. We have two dogs and two cats. We love spending
time together swimming, riding bicycles, reading, or all snuggling on
the couch and watching a good movie.

In this class we will take a digital field trip, so that the students will remember the experience and
associate it with the lesson. We also will do gamified learning, students enjoy doing educational games. I
use these games as a resource to see what students know and what we need to work on. This is also a
review for most. Students will also become familiar with Video/ Multimedia Lessons and Presentations in
this class. I will use them and students will complete an assignment doing this.

During this course, I will go over digital literacy with your students. They will learn online expectations,
how to protect themselves and their work online, and online courtesy. We will talk about ethical use of
digital resources, cyber bullying, understanding digital footprint, handling digital content, managing
digital distractions, and protecting yourself online. All of these are important to be successful in virtual
learning.

Some strategies for active engagement that I will use with students during virtual learning, are the
following:

● When students first login into class, we will play a would you rather game, guessing
game, or I might have a riddle. This is to get your student excited about logging in and
not want to miss this activity. My hope is that they will not be late to online class or want
to miss class.
● Provide high-interest resources such as a virtual field trip which could be conducted live
or prerecorded.
● Allow students to participate by asking them for ideas for games or letting them present a
portion of the lesson. They could use the jigsaw technique of dividing an assignment into
pieces and dividing the class into groups. Each group would have a portion of the
assignment to present to the entire class.
