India-UAE CEPA Key Points:


 During the past one year, CEPA has made a significant
impact on India’s Bilateral Trade with the UAE and
particularly India’s Exports to the UAE (Oil and Non-Oil).
 The Bilateral Trade between India and the UAE has
touched historic highs during FY 2022-23. Trade has
increased from US$ 72.9 billion (Apr 21-Mar 2022) to US$
84.5 billion (Apr 22-Mar 2023) registering a year-on-
year increase of 16%.
 During the CEPA Implementation period (from May 22 to
Mar 23), bilateral trade increased from US$ 67.5 billion
(May 21-Mar 2022) to US$ 76.9 billion (May 22-Mar 2023)
– an annual increase of 14%.

Vivad se Vishwas Key Points:

 The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, has


launched the scheme, “Vivad se Vishwas I – Relief to
MSMEs” for providing relief to Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises (MSMEs) for COVID-19 period.
 The scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24
by Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.
 The scheme commenced from 17.04.2023 and the last
date for submission of claims is 30.06.2023.

Coal Jumps by Key Points:


nearly 23% in the  India’s overall coal Production has seen a quantum
last 5 years jump to 893.08 MT in FY 2022-23 as compared to
728.72 MT in FY 2018-2019 with a growth of about
22.6%.
 The priority of the Ministry is to enhance the domestic coal
production to reduce the dependence on substitutable
coal imports.
 In the last 5 years, the production of Coal India Limited
(CIL) has increased by 703.21 MT (Million tonnes) as
compared to 606.89 MT in FY 2018-2019 with a growth of
15.9%.

 SCCL has shown impressive growth at 67.14 MT in FY
2022-23 from 64.40 MT in FY 2018-19 with a growth of
4.3%.
 Captive and other mines have also taken a lead in coal
production by 122.72 MT in FY 2022-23 from 57.43 MT in
FY 2018-19 with a growth of 113.7%.
 The annual Coal Production target set for the FY 2023-
2024 is 1012 MT.
 Focus on Allocating 25 new Mines for Commercial Mining
in FY 2023-24
 CAPEX and Asset Monetization - The CAPEX target for
FY 2023-24 is Rs 21030 Crores (CIL: Rs.16,500 Cr, NLCIL:
Rs. 2,880 Cr and SCCL: Rs. 1650 Cr) The overall projected
target of Assets Monetization plan for FY 2023-24 is Rs.
50,118.61 Crores

REC limited Lists its Key Point:


Green Bonds of USD  REC Limited has undertaken an exclusive listing of its
750mn at GIFT IFSC recently issued Green bonds of USD 750 million raised
Stock Exchanges under its Global Medium Term Programme of USD 7
billion at GIFT IFSC Stock Exchanges in a primary
listing ceremony held in GIFT IFSC, Gandhinagar
 With this listing, the cumulative ESG labelled bonds listed
on IFSC Exchanges has crossed USD 10 billion.
 Mr. Injeti Srinivas, Chairman, International Financial
Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) was the Chief Guest at
the listing ceremony, which was attended by Mr. Vivek
Kumar Dewangan, Chairman and Managing Director
(CMD), REC and Mr. Ajoy Choudhury, Director (Finance),
REC and other senior officials of India INX and NSE IFSC.

Food Street Project Key Points:


 Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr.
Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the ‘Food Street Project’ to
develop 100 healthy and hygienic food streets across
the country with senior officers of the Health Ministry
and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
(FSSAI).
 The aim of this project is to encourage safe and healthy
food practices among food businesses and community
members, thus, reducing foodborne illnesses and
improving the overall health outcomes.

Background:
 To operationalize the food streets, the National Health
Mission (NHM) of the Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare will provide an assistance of Rs. 1 crore per food
street as a pilot project to support 100 such food streets
at different locations across the country.
 The grant will be routed under NHM, in the ratio of 60:40
or 90:10, with the condition that branding of these food
streets will be done as per FSSAI guidelines.
 The initiative will be implemented through NHM in
convergence with the Ministry of Housing and Urban
Affairs (MoHUA), apart from FSSAI’s technical support.

India-UAE Key Points:


 Sh. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department for
Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and H.E
Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeoudi, UAE Minister of State for
Foreign Trade, jointly inaugurated the events to
commemorate the first anniversary of the entry into force
of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
(CEPA) between India and the UAE.
 The path-breaking India-UAE CEPA, which was negotiated
in just 88 days, has become a significant turning point in
the bilateral economic relations between the two
countries.
 For India, the CEPA with UAE is the first in the region and
for UAE, it is their first ever CEPA.
 Since the entry into force of CEPA, bilateral trade between
India and UAE has witnessed tremendous growth of 20%
when compared to the previous year.
 India’s exports to the UAE also recorded a remarkable
growth of 12%, reaching US $ 31.3 billion in 2022-
2023.
 The UAE is currently the seventh largest investor in
India with an estimated investment of US$ 18 billion.

Key points:
FSDC  Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Smt.
Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 27th Meeting of the
Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC), for
the first time after the announcement of the Budget
2023-24.
Union Finance Minister Smt. Sitharaman advised that:
 Regulators should maintain a constant vigil as
ensuring ‘financial sector stability is a shared
responsibility’ of the regulators. Regulators must take
appropriate and timely action to mitigate any vulnerability
and strengthen financial stability.
 Regulators should adopt a focused approach to reduce
the compliance burden further and ensure a
streamlined and efficient regulatory environment. The
progress achieved in this regard shall be reviewed by the
Union Finance Minister with each regulator in June 2023.

 The regulators need to be proactive and ensure cyber-
security preparedness of the information technology
systems to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks, protect
sensitive financial data, and maintain overall system
integrity, thus safeguarding the stability and resilience
of the Indian financial ecosystem.
 Regulators should conduct a special drive to facilitate
the settlement of unclaimed deposits and claims in
the financial sector across all segments, such as banking
deposits, shares and dividends, mutual funds, insurance,
etc.
 Action Taken Report on Budget announcements made
since 2019 was discussed. A focused approach should be
adopted by the regulators to implement the
announcements made in the Budget 2023-24, for which
timelines were also decided.
It also deliberated on,
 Early Warning Indicators for the economy and our
preparedness to deal with them,
 Reducing Compliance Burden on the regulated entities in
the financial sector by Improving Regulatory Quality, Debt
Levels of Corporates and Households in India,
 Simplification and Streamlining of KYC Framework to
meet the needs of Digital India,
 Seamless Experience for Retail Investors in Government
Securities,
 Bimakrit Bharat - Unique Value Proposition to take
insurance to last mile, and support required in terms of
resolving inter-regulatory issues for GIFT IFSC to play
strategic role in Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The Council also took note of the activities undertaken by the
FSDC Sub-Committee chaired by the RBI Governor and the
action taken by members on the past decisions of the FSDC.

Key points:
PMJJBY, PMSBY  PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY were launched by Prime
and APY Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 9th May, 2015 from
Kolkata, West Bengal.
 Citing data on the 8th anniversaries of the Jan
Suraksha Schemes, Smt. Sitharaman said that 16.2
crore, 34.2 crore and 5.2 crore enrolments have been
done under PMJJBY, PMSBY & APY respectively till
26th April 2023.
 On PMJJBY scheme, the Finance Minister said that it has
provided crucial support to 6.64 lakh families who have
received claims for Rs. 13,290 crore.
 Under PMSBY scheme, Smt. Sitharaman said that more
than 1.15 lakh families have received claims for Rs. 2,302
crore.

 For both PMJJBY and PMSBY schemes, simplification of
claim process has resulted in speedier settlement of
claims.
Background:
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)
 Scheme: PMJJBY is a one-year life insurance
scheme renewable from year to year offering
coverage for death due to any reason.
 Eligibility: Persons in the age group of 18-50 years
having an individual bank or a post office account
are entitled to enroll under the scheme. People who
join the scheme before completing 50 years of age
can continue to have the risk of life covered up to
age of 55 years upon payment of regular premium.
 Benefits: Life cover of Rs. 2 Lakh in case of death
due to any reason against a premium of Rs. 436/-
per annum.
 Achievements: As on 26.04.2023, the
cumulative enrolments under the scheme have
been more than 16.19 crore and an amount of
Rs. 13,290.40 crore has been paid for 6,64,520
claims.
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)
 Scheme: PMSBY is a one-year accidental
insurance scheme renewable from year to year
offering coverage for death or disability due to
accident.
 Eligibility: Persons in the age group of 18-70 years
having an individual bank or a post office account
are entitled to enroll under the scheme.
 Benefits: Accidental death cum disability cover of
Rs.2 lakh (Rs.1 lakh in case of partial disability) for
death or disability due to an accident against a
premium of Rs.20/- per annum.
 Achievements: As on 26.04.2023, the
cumulative enrolments under the scheme have
been more than 34.18 crore and an amount of
Rs. 2,302.26 crore has been paid for 1,15,951
claims.
Atal Pension Yojana (APY)
 Background: The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was
launched to create a universal social security
system for all Indians, especially the poor, the
under-privileged and the workers in the
unorganised sector. It is an initiative of the
Government to provide financial security and cover
future exigencies for the people in the unorganised
sector. APY is administered by Pension Fund
Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA)

under the overall administrative and institutional
architecture of the National Pension System (NPS).
 Eligibility: APY is open to all bank account holders
in the age group of 18 to 40 years who are not
income tax payers and the contributions differ,
based on pension amount chosen.
 Benefits: Subscribers would receive the
guaranteed minimum monthly pension of Rs. 1000
or Rs. 2000 or Rs. 3000 or Rs. 4000 or Rs. 5000
after the age of 60 years, based on the
contributions made by the subscriber after joining
the scheme.
 Disbursement of the Scheme Benefits: The
monthly pension is available to the subscriber, and
after him to his spouse and after their death, the
pension corpus, as accumulated at age 60 of the
subscriber, would be returned to the nominee of
the subscriber.
 In case of premature death of subscriber (death
before 60 years of age), spouse of the subscriber
can continue contribution to APY account of the
subscriber, for the remaining vesting period, till
the original subscriber would have attained the age
of 60 years.
 Contribution by Central Government: The
minimum pension would be guaranteed by the
Government, i.e., if the accumulated corpus based
on contributions earns a lower than estimated
return on investment and is inadequate to provide
the minimum guaranteed pension, the Central
Government would fund such inadequacy.
Alternatively, if the returns on investment are
higher, the subscribers would get enhanced
pensionary benefits.
 Payment frequency: Subscribers can make
contributions to APY on monthly/ quarterly / half-
yearly basis.
 Withdrawal from the Scheme: Subscribers can
voluntarily exit from APY subject to certain
conditions, on deduction of Government co-
contribution and return/interest thereon.
 Achievements: As on 27.04.2023 more than 5
crore individuals have subscribed to the
scheme.

Key Points:
Thalassemia Bal Sewa  Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State
Yojana for Health and Family Welfare launched the
third phase of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana
(TBSY) of the Health Ministry which is being
supported by Coal India Limited as part of their
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative
to commemorate World Thalassemia Day
 She also launched the Thalassemia Bal Sewa
Yojana Portal.
Background:
 Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that
causes a body to have less hemoglobin than
normal.
 The Union Health Ministry has been
implementing the TBSY since 2017 under the
National Health Mission (NHM) and had
recently completed its second phase in March
2023.
 The Coal India CSR-funded Hematopoietic Stem
Cell Transplant (HSCT) program is a unique
initiative aimed at providing a one-time cure
opportunity to underprivileged Thalassemia
patients who have a matched sibling donor but do
not have the financial resources to cover the cost
of the procedure.
 The program has successfully completed 356 bone
marrow transplants for Thalassemia patients
across 10 empanelled hospitals in India during the
two phases.

 The Department of Empowerment of Persons with


National-Level Stakeholder Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and
Consultation under Empowerment organised a National-Level
National Action Plan (NAP) Stakeholder Consultation under National Action
for Skill Development of Plan (NAP) for Skill Development of Persons with
Persons with Disabilities Disabilities on 4th May 2023 at National
Institute of Social Defence, Dwarka, New Delhi.
 The main objective of the consultation was to get
strategic inputs on the NAP scheme from the
stakeholders based on their experiences as well as
formulate multi-lateral collaborations that can
develop sustainable models of skilling and
employment of PwDs.

India Post becomes  India Post signed an MoU with Confederation of All
logistics partner for India Traders (CAIT) and Tripta Technologies in the
crores of traders presence of Minister of State for Communications, Shri
Devusinh Chauhan.
 The MoU facilitates operationalisation of a portal called
'Bharat EMart', which will provide the facility of pick-up
of consignments from the premises of traders and will
ensure delivery at the doorsteps of the consignees across
the country.
