Chotuna Chornancap

Archaeological Complex

In the district of San José, you can visit the


Archaeological Complex of Chotuna Chornancap,
within the jurisdiction of the department of
Lambayeque. A place where you can see the
archaeological remains of various truncated
pyramids and enclosures, especially highlighting
the pyramids of Chotuna and Chornancap, the
first of which has come to be related to the
legend of the Lord of Naylamp.
Huaca Chotuna
Chotuna is made up of a group of huacas, palaces
and walled enclosures, all built with adobe. The
main construction to observe in this space is the
stepped pyramid of approximately 40 meters high,
surrounded by a ramp whose destination is the
top.

To the west, you can see a rectangular structure that was possibly used
as a craft workshop. In the southeast, there are large walled enclosures,
probably used as a meeting point for the population.
Huaca Chornancap
Chornancap is located 1.5 km from Chotuna. The main construction of
this place is the truncated pyramid. It is characterized by having a T-
shaped plan, 3 superimposed platforms and a central ramp.

To the north of the huaca, a series of architectural structures were


unearthed that determine the successive phases of occupation and
remodeling. Its patio has been decorated with mural paintings of the
typical iconography of Lambayeque. The pigments are of mineral origin
and colors such as red, black, light green, dark green and yellow were
used
