Motivation

According to Greenberg (1999), motivation is defined “as a process of arousing, directing

and maintaining behavior towards a goal.” Human motivation is often a complicated
process that begins with human needs. It is the power that transforms and elevates people
in order for them to be productive and perform well at work. The motivation process is a
dynamic one, implying that at some point, one may be confronted with a number of
demands that must be met. Motivation is an important function in businesses because it
motivates individuals to perform effectively, improve their abilities, increase productivity, job
happiness, and employee retention.

There are certain theories of motivation that are categorized into content and process
theories depending on their applications and the theoretical basic tenets they deduce.
Understanding these theories is crucial since it may help you become a better member of
an organization.

Employee motivation should be focused toward the aims of the organization. The
persistence of motivation is determined by how long an individual can continually put an
effort to attain a certain objective. All three of these factors have a role in an individual's
motivation. Furthermore, it is vital for all personnel within a company to remain motivated in
their work in order to complete the responsibilities that have been assigned to them.

In conclusion, motivation is very important in a workplace. Employees are the most

significant resource in any organization, and as such, they should be well-treated and
constantly motivated. Employees that are highly driven are always willing to go above and
beyond to help the firm achieve its objectives. Employees, both individually and collectively,
contribute to the achievement of the established goals for long-term competitive advantage.
Thus, it may be accomplished in a variety of methods, including providing safe working
conditions for employees, compensating people highly for the work they do, and offering
training programs to develop the employees' abilities.
