Case study 1
“Murder or suicide”
Background/ introduction- Mr. & Mrs. Reddy living in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Struggling with some
financial issues due to loss in business. Mr. Reddy have an insurance policy of 50 lac. With LIC.

The Scene - Police officers received call from the nearest hospital regarding death of the patient
involving firearm Injury. No bullet found in the body. Death due to injury to brain and severe blood loss.
police officer come to hospital and take a survey of body. Then he takes notes of it and take the
testimony from the doctor and victims’ relatives.

Testimony given by wife of the patient -Mrs. Reddy


Mr. Reddy returned to his house with bleeding injuries. He fell unconscious and was taken to the
hospital where he died after 1 hour. wife of person gives this testimony and she don’t have any type of
knowledge why, where and how her husband Injured.

Doctors statement who treated the patient-


Person had gunshots with wounds of the entrance below the chin and a wound of exit on the left
side of the damn frontal bone. No blackening and tattooing around the wound of the entrance. Due to
sever loss of blood and injury victim didn’t survived. No bullet found at the site of injury.

Post Mortem Evaluation-

1) bullet Entry wound- below the chin


2)exit wound of gas bullet- left side of frontal bone
3)No blackening and tattooing around the wound of entry.
4)Particles of propellent were found along the bullet track indicates contact shot.
5)residue present on the web portion of the right hand send for the further analysis.
6) no bullet found.
7)no marks of struggle.
8)no tearing of cloths.
9)nails were clean.
10)no other injuries.
11)viscera is collected and preserved for future analysis and investigation.
12) soil partials present on the clothes of victim.
13) soil and grass traces at the bottom of victim’s shoes.
Primary Investigation - police arrested the victim’s wife with the charge the of murder, because she
was the last person who was in contact with victim. She admitted that Mr. Reddy’s Licensed revolver
(smith &Wesson model-29 caliber-44 magnum) is missing from the home. For the insurance money
must be she killed her husband.

Analysis Report- residue which are present on the hand is gunshot residue. GSR was present on the
web portion of the right hand.
soil and grass particles compared with victim’s house garden sample -negative match

further Police investigation-

soil samples are collected by near by houses, gardens and locality for purpose of compare it with
sample which was collected by victims’ shoes.
Since the site of injury is the common site for committing suicide. GSR also found on the right hand of
victim. This case concluded that it was a case of suicide.
During investigation the revolves was recovered from the a nearby Park and fired bullet is also
found from the tree present in the park. Recovery of the revolver, bullet and its examination added
further strength to the conclusion of suicide.

Bullet examination and comparison-


1) Bullet which collected from the tree is have biological evidence blood which matches with victim.
2) Revolver which recovered from park is smith &Wesson model-29 caliber-44 magnum.
3) GSR matched
4) soil sample matched.

Court Judgement -

case was presented Infront of justice Mr. Dayal.


After proper evaluation of the evidences and circumstances
Judge Dayal concluded that this was a case of suicide. Circumstantial evidences like recovered
revolvers GSR is matched matches with the GSR which found on the victim’s hand. Place of recovery is a
garden the soil sample and grass sample are also matches, hence the wife of victim Mrs. Reddy released
from prison/custody with dignity.
Case study 2
“The fractured Arm"
Background/ introduction-

In the area of Chambal, Madhya Pradesh.


There was firing between police and dacoits. The dacoits were able to carry the body of an injured
fellow with them after the firing was over. Police officer chase them but he unable to caught dacoits.

(After few days).

The scene-
Police officer receives a call from the private hospital of Dr. Rekha. Suresh is the X-ray technician at
the hospital from last 5 years. He informs that the patient who is admitted in the hospital for the
treatment of fractured arm. His body was subjected to X ray examination which showed a presence of a
bullet in the body of the injured person. Now they are planned surgery to remove the bullet from the
body.

Primary investigation –

1)Removed bullet Is collected and by police and submitted for the further analysis.
2) injured person is kept under surveillance by the police.

Analysts report of bullet-

1)bullet - 0.38 caliber.


- (prohibited bore and mainly used by police)

secondary investigation-

1)analysis of bullet cleared that this bullet could have been fired by police.

2)All the weapons (Revolvers) used by police, Send for the matching.

3)And Injured person taken under the Custody by police officials.


Analysis and comparison of the police weapons with bullet-

1) forensic lab reveled that recovered bullet had been fired from one of the revolvers used by police.
analyzed with the help of comparison microscope technique.

2) Thereby confirming that the person undergoing the treatment was none else a dacoit.

Court judgement-

Case was presented Infront of justice Acharya.


After the evaluation and analysis of the given theory and circumstantial evidences the person is
convicted for dacoity, robbery and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his
duty.

IPC Sec 395 - imprisonment fer life


IPC Sec 353 - 2yrs imprisonment & 10000 fine.
IPC See 392 - 10 yrs. rigorous imprisonment
