HOW INFORMATION AND DATA ARE BEING TRANSFERRED FROM ONE

DEVICE TO ANOTHER (PC/HANDHELD DEVICES).

Before we dive into the awesome world of networking, it is essential to have a deep
understanding of engineering in general. Engineering remains a fundamental part of our society,
Engineering can occur in diverse fields and sectors, These engineering concepts have led to a
great impact in our everyday lives, basically everything we make use of has some form of
engineering in it ranging from the house we live in, the road networks we use, our cellphones,
the cars we drive, the production of oil and fuel and so on. Engineering contributes a huge chunk
of stability to our everyday lives. Furthermore, what is engineering? It involves the application of
scientific principles to build the things we use in our everyday lives such as bridges, buildings,
cellphones, computers, vehicles and so on.Scientific principles such as equilibrium (moments
and couples) which are used to build structures like as skyscrapers and bridges, waves which are
used to produce network signals, hydrocarbons which are used for the production of fuel,
velocity, motion, work, energy and power which is needed for the design of various automobiles
and so on. Engineering has a large plethora of applications. In this article, I would shed more
light on how information is transferred from a cell phone to another cell phone as long as there is
an internet connection.
Before we dive into this phenomenon, I would like to explain what an IP address is, An IP
address or Internet Protocol is a unique identification of numbers which is used to connect to
various devices via the internet. An IP address is usually in the form of a domain name. A
domain name is a unique name which is used to access the server of a given website. When that
domain name enters the operating system of a device, it gets translated into an IP address by a
dependency called Domain Name System (DNS). In addition to this, an IP address comprises of
a header and a payload. Just like a traditional mail system, the mail must always have the names,
address and vital details of both the recipient and sender of the information. These informations
can be found in the header component of an IP address. The header also contains a unique code
which can be recognized and accessed by the recipient’s device. Owing to the aforementioned,
an IP address also comprises of a payload which contains the actual information to be
transferred. Again reflecting on the traditional mail delivery system, these messages could be lost
or arrive out of order during transit. This process also occurs in the networking system which is
why some protocols are embedded into the payload to provide extra protection of data. These
protocols are User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). The
former helps to prevent the data from being damaged or lost while the latter helps to ensure the
messages arrive in order.
In conclusion, the above phenomenon cannot work without the use of an internet. Here’s how the
internet works, when you turn on your devices internet connection, you are instantly connected
to the world, this is made possible by the provision of a networking switch which allows your
device to be connected to other devices and other network switches. Similarly, this network
switch can also connect to other network switches; hence forming an Inter-connection of
networks called INTERNET.
