System GROUP 2 Queenie Floranda Mikaeilla Jewel Dantes Clyde Prince Biavera Group 2 Group 2 Learning Objectives In this lesson, students should be able to do the following
. Determine the parts and functions of the Endocrine
System.
Explain how the organs and glands of the Endocrine
. System work together.
. Develop healthful habits that promote proper
functioning of the different body systems. Do you know what an Orchestra is? Lets find out and learn, talk, explore and discover the Endocrine System What is the Endocrine System? The endocrine system is a complex network of glands and organs. It uses hormones to control and coordinate your body's metabolism, energy level, reproduction, growth and development, and response to injury, stress, and mood. What are Hormones? Hormones are chemicals that coordinate different functions in your body by carrying messages through your blood to your organs, skin, muscles and other tissues. These signals tell your body what to do and when to do it. The Endocrine System has 10 major parts. Parts and Functions of the Endocrine System The Brain The Endocrine System- Hypothalamus Your hypothalamus, a structure deep in your brain, acts as your body's smart control coordinating center. Its main function is to keep your body in a stable state called homeostasis. It does its job by directly influencing your autonomic nervous system or by managing hormones. The Endocrine System- Pineal gland also called the pineal body or epiphysis cerebri, is a tiny gland in your brain that's located beneath the back part of the corpus callosum. It's a part of your endocrine system and secretes the hormone melatonin. The Endocrine System- Pituitary Gland The major endocrine gland. A pea-sized body attached to the base of the brain, the pituitary is important in controlling growth and development and the functioning of the other endocrine glands. It regulates growth, metabolism, and reproduction through the hormones that it produces. The Neck The Endocrine System-Thyroid gland
Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped
gland located at the front of your neck under your skin. It's a part of your endocrine system and controls many of your body's important functions by producing and releasing (secreting) certain hormones. The Endocrine System- Parathyroid gland
One of four pea-sized
glands found on the surface of the thyroid. The parathyroid hormone made by these glands increases the calcium level in the blood. The Endocrine System-Thymus Gland A lymphoid organ situated in the neck of vertebrates that produces T cells for the immune system. The human thymus becomes much smaller at the approach of puberty. The Stomach The Endocrine System- Pancreas The pancreas is the largest organ of the Endocrine System. It is an organ located in the abdomen. It plays an essential role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body's cells. In Endocrine function it regulates blood sugar. The Endocrine System- Adrenal Gland A small gland that makes steroid hormones, adrenaline, and noradrenaline. These hormones help control heart rate, blood pressure, and other important body functions. The Reproductive Glands The Endocrine System- Ovary(female)
One of a pair of female glands in
which the eggs form and the female hormones. In addition to their role in producing ova, the ovaries also have the distinction of being an endocrine gland because they secrete hormones. The Endocrine System- Testes(male)
One of two egg-shaped
glands inside the scrotum that produce sperm and male hormones. Also called testicle. These organs are responsible for producing the sperm and ova, but they also secrete (testosterone) hormones and are considered to be endocrine glands. how do we take care of our Endocrine system? 1. Get plenty of exercise 2. Eat nutritious diet 3. Go for Regular medical checkups 4.Talk to the doctor before taking any supplements or herbal treatments. 5.Let the doctor know about any family history of endocrine problems, such as diabetes or thyroid problems. a.
