Figure 1: General view of the E460 1ph DIN-Rail meter and P160 Customer Interface Unit

2.2 Functional Overview

The E460 single phase DIN-Rail is part of the E460 family of smart
prepayment meters and is an advanced single-phase, multi-function,
keypad-based, smart prepayment meter in a DIN-Rail housing. The E460
solution incorporates powerful e-metering functionality combined with STS
prepayment and uses open standard (Orthogonal Frequency-Division
Multiplexing) OFDM G3-PLC communications between the meter, the P160
customer interface unit and a PLC Data Concentrator.
The E460 meter communicates with the data concentrator using PLC
technology based on G3-PLC OFDM and the protocol over the
communication is always DLMS. The G3-PLC technology offers robust
communication over power lines, as well as enabling end-to-end IPv6
communication. G3-PLC is an international open standard supporting the
Cenelec A band.
PLC communication technology represents the best trade-off in the context
of conflicting technological and economic requirements.
The E460 single phase DIN-Rail split prepayment meter is based on
Landis+Gyr’s existing and already proven smart meter solutions and
incorporates powerful smart metering functionality combined with STS
prepayment.
The E460 meter may be utilised in an off-line installation as a stand-alone
split prepayment meter, or in an on-line installation as part of an end to end
two way AMI smart metering solution.

Inputs The main meter inputs are:

 Phase connection and neutral

 Energy measurement
 Power supply to the meter
 PLC communication

Outputs The main meter outputs (some of which are also inputs) are:

 Optical pulse output LED (Red)

 Optical interface for automatic data readout on site by means of a
suitable device (also input)
 G3-PLC communication interface for connection to a metering system
via the low voltage network (also input)
Power supply The supply voltage for the meter electronics is taken from the single-phase
system. It works correctly as soon as phase and neutral are connected to
mains voltage. In the event of mains failure, a voltage monitor ensures the
safe storage of meter data and manages the restart when mains voltage is
restored.

E460 1ph DIN-Rail Meter 13/68

Memory Meter parameters are stored in a non-volatile (FLASH) memory, which

protects the parameters in the event of power failure.

2.5.2 Signal Generation

The measurement system is based on a sensor “shunt” for measuring the
intensity, which is inserted at the entrance of Live Load Switching (relay)
and a voltage over a resistor divider between neutral and Phase network.
A specialized integrated circuit (called MMI) measures the signal current
and voltage, and generates the digitized voltage, current and power values
to the microprocessor, that transferred into the corresponding energy
registers (rate-dependent).
The microprocessor generates pulses for the optical output test LED from
the digital sum of the measured phase values according to the meter
constant.

2.5.3 Signal Processing

The output values of the MMI are used as a basis for further calculations.
Calibration The measurement system is calibrated during the manufacturing process of
the meter. Calibration data is stored in a non-volatile memory and cannot
be altered.
Start detection The microprocessor compares the measured power with the minimum
starting power. Signals are only processed, if the minimum starting power
is exceeded.
Measured quantities The following energy values can be measured and stored in the registers:

– Active energy (A)

– Reactive energy (R)
– Apparent energy (VA)
Energy type: kWh, kVArh, kVAh
Direction: Import, export, ± reactive, reactive by quadrant
Instantaneous Values: Voltage, current, frequency, active power,
reactive power, apparent power, power factor
Measurement There are 12 independent measurement channels. Each of the measured
channels quantities is assigned to one of these channels.
Energy registers Each measurement channel has a total energy register assigned to it. 32
rated energy registers can be assigned to the measurement channels by
means of parameterisation.
All internal registers have 9 digits. The internal register magnitude is Wh
(Watt-Hours). Internal registers cannot be reset. When the register reaches
999999999, it rolls over to 0. The display and readout formats vary from the
internal format.
Demand registers There are 4 demand registers and 20 maximum demand registers.
Power Limiting The meter monitors power and operates the supply control switch based on
parameterisation.
Profiles The meter supports 2 load profiles (LP1 and LP2), 1 billing data profile
Rates The meter is designed for up to 9 rates (only 4 rates are currently
implemented). The assignment of the rate registers is done by means of
parameterisation.

2.6 Supply Control Switch

The E460 meter is equipped with a supply control switch to connect or
disconnect the premises of the consumer. The supply control switch can be
operated remotely by commands via any communication channel, or locally
through control functions integrated in the meter.

Supply control is designed so that it enables the use the supply control
switch as:
– Disconnection, if the power limit has been exceeded over a
specified time
– In the post-payment mode, the load switch can be disconnected,
with possibility to reconnect locally or remotely.

Supply control switch may not be used as a main switch

Do not use the supply control switch as a main switch for installation or

3 E460 Meter Installation

Do not touch live parts

Dangers can arise from live electrical installations to which the meters are
connected. Touching live parts is dangerous to life. All safety information
should therefore be strictly observed.

Intended environmental conditions for meter installations:

 Meters are intended for outdoor use, but the installation site must meet the
requirements of the device’s protection class (IP54) and the operating
temperature range (-10 to +55 °C).

  The E460 is rated as an indoor meter, but outdoor installation is possible as

long as the meter is installed in a suitable external housing that protects the
meter from the elements such as rain.
 The meter should be installed with copper conductors. The use of aluminium
conductors can result in corrosion. Please seek advice before using this meter
with aluminium conductors.

3.1 Introduction
The following conditions must be met for the installation and commissioning
of the meter:
 The work described below must only be conducted by technically
qualified and suitably trained persons.
 These persons must be familiar with and observe local safety
regulations.
 Strict observance of the details contained in section 1 “Safety”, in
particular the safety regulations, as well as safe operation.
 Before starting work, ensure that the materials and tools required are all
present.

3.2 Before Installation

Figure 9: Meter connection with phase and neutral

Dangerous voltage on conductors

The connecting wires at the place of installation must not be live when

No overcurrent protection and automatic disconnection

The meter has no internal overcurrent protection and no method of dis-
connection from the mains. Overcurrent protection must be provided by the
end installation.

Protect supply control switch against overcurrent

The meter has a supply control switch, and it must be protected against
over-current. As the supply control switch is not equipped with a thermal
and/or short-circuit protection device, it needs to be protected with an
external fuse or overload switch / circuit breaker.

3.3 Mounting

Observe safety instructions

 Prior to mounting the meter, read and strictly observe the general safety
instructions given in section 3.2 “Before Installation”.

The meter should be mounted as follows on the meter board or similar

device provided for this purpose (also see section 2.10 “Dimensions”):
1. Find the correct position for the meter. Ensure there are no wires
underneath the holes to be drilled.

9. Connect the phase connection wires and the inputs and outputs as
described in section 3.4 “Connecting”.

3.4 Connecting
3.4.1 Connecting the Phase and Neutral Connection Wires

Observe safety instructions

 Prior to connecting the meter, read and strictly observe the general safety
instructions given in section 3.2 “Before Installation”. The meter must be
mounted as described in section 3.3 “Mounting” before it is connected.

Insufficiently tightened screws causes power loss

 Failure to tighten terminal screws sufficiently can lead to power loss and
heating.

Do not withdraw connecting wires with closed terminals

Never withdraw connecting wires with the terminal closed, as this can
damage the terminal.

1. Cut the phase and neutral connecting wires to the required length and
strip their ends. The insulation of the connecting line must extend as
far as the terminal indentation, i.e. there must be no further bare part of
the connecting line visible above the terminal edge. The stripped part
of the connecting wire should be shortened if necessary.

E460 Meter Installation 23/68

2. If stranded wire is used as a phase and neutral connection line, it has

to be provided with a ferrule for connection.
3. Insert the phase and neutral connecting wires in the relevant terminals
(the terminals are numbered as shown in the connection diagram) and
tighten the terminal screws firmly.
– For wires with small conductor cross-sections (≤ 6 mm2), the
connecting line must be placed carefully in the middle of the
terminal, so that it cannot move sideways when tightening the
terminal screws. When tightening, ensure that the connecting line
remains between the copper inside the terminal and the screw.
– It is recommended that the beginning and end of the relevant
conductors are identified using a suitable test unit (e.g. buzzer) to
ensure that the right consumer is connected to the meter output.

3.4.2 Checking the Phase Connections

Before putting the meter into operation the following points must be
checked and corrected, if necessary:
1. Has the correct meter (with the correct identification number) been
installed at the measuring point of the relevant consumer?
2. Are all terminal screws for the phase connections and neutral
tightened sufficiently?
3. Are the mains inputs and outputs connected correctly? The conductor
from the house connection must be present at the input (terminal 1),
that of the meter to the consumer at the output (terminal 3).
4. Is the neutral conductor connected to terminals 2?
5. Attach the terminal cover.
6. Close the terminal block cover with the locking screw.
7. Check the installation as described in section 3.5 “Commissioning and
Functional Check”.

3.5 Commissioning and Functional Check

The installed meter should be put into service and checked as follows:
1. Close the circuit breaker. The meter is switched on.
2. Check the meter general status LED (1 flash indicates power ON and
healthy condition) – refer to meter status LED in section 2.9.3
3. Check that the load switch LED indicator is OFF, this means that the
load switch is closed (if ON, refer to section on fault-finding)
4. Connect a load such as heater or stove plate (typically 1kW or more)
and check that the pulse output LED starts blinking within a few
seconds.
5. Perform the set-up process for the required communication devices
(PLC interface, connected P160 Customer Interface Unit) as described
in section 4.6.4. If PLC concentrators have already been installed on
the network and the new meter search has been activated in the
concentrator, also check the PLC device communication status on the
meter to confirm the status. For PLC communications status, please
refer to section 2.9.4

24/68 E460 Meter Installation

6. Once the PLC Customer Interface Unit has been commissioned and
communicating correctly, check that the meter is measuring correctly.
Refer also to the display indicators and their functions are described in
section 4.1

PLC concentrators must have been installed

Communication check can be performed only if PLC concentrators have
already been installed on the network.
 A PLC concentrator automatically identifies devices operating in its
communication area and adds them to the concentrator’s topology in the
system and automatic reading can begin. See concentrator and system
documentation for more information.

3.6 Uninstalling the Meter

Disconnect the circuit breaker before disconnecting
The connecting wires at the place of installation must not be live when
removing the meter. Touching live parts is dangerous to life. The
corresponding circuit breaker must be disconnected until work is
completed, so that it cannot be switched on by anyone unnoticed.

Remove the meter from the network as follows:

1. Switch off the voltage. The status LED goes off.
2. Remove the seals from terminal cover screw.
3. Release and remove the terminal cover.
4. Ensure with a phase checker that the connecting wires have no
voltage. If there is voltage, switch of the main circuit breaker.
5. Loosen the terminal screws of the phase and neutral connecting wires
with a suitable screwdriver and withdraw the wires from the terminals.
6. Unscrew and remove the meter.
7. Mount a substitute meter with the three fixing screws on the mounting
surface.
8. Connect the substitute meter as described in section 3.4 “Connecting”
and the following sections.

4 P160 Customer Interface Unit

4.1 General View

Figure 12: (Above) The P160 Customer Interface Unit

4.2 Functional overview

The P160 Customer Interface Unit is compact with a user-friendly keypad
and display. It may be installed in any convenient location in the
consumer’s home where there is an electrical socket outlet.
An easily replaceable battery is provided for communicating in the absence
of AC mains power e.g. when the meter is out of credit.
The E460 meter contains all critical metering, token decryption, load control
and smart meter functionality. It operates independently and is immune to
any form of tampering on the P160 Customer Interface Unit.
The P160 Customer Interface Unit is plugged into an existing mains outlet
in the household. Under normal conditions when the load switch of the
meter is closed and there is power in the house, the Customer Interface
Unit operates directly from mains voltage. However in the event that the
meter load switch opens (e.g. could be due to prepayment credit expiring),
the Customer Interface Unit, which is fitted with a battery, will enter a sleep
mode to save battery energy.
By pressing and holding the “Enter/Power key” on the keypad, the
customer is able to power up the P160 Customer Interface Unit using the
battery and enable a new prepayment credit token to be entered.
If there is no power in the household and the customer interface unit is
woken up using the battery, the display will flash on and off, showing the
user the last known status of the meter, for example prepayment credit
expired.
The customer or field technician can additionally view meter parameters by
accessing specific register information via the P160 Customer Interface
Unit keypad or by scrolling through the available pre-configured registers,
by pressing the scroll up and down buttons on the P160 keypad.

4.6 Customer Interface Unit Operation

4.6.1 General
The customer interface unit effectively acts as a remote display and keypad
for the meter. It does not implement any token decryption. The customer
interface unit is a self-contained device that implements its own battery-
backed power supply and G3-PLC communications and it does have
specific functionality that is of importance to the customer e.g. the indication
of alarms for low credit or low battery conditions, communication to the
meter, energy usage, and instantaneous power etc.

4.6.2 Connection to the Mains Supply

 For the customer interface unit to function correctly, it must be permanently

connected to the customer’s AC mains supply.

Each customer interface unit is supplied with a standard mains power cord
that may be plugged into any convenient socket outlet in the customer’s
premises.
It is equally important that the supply remains switched on at all times for
the following reasons:
 It allows the remaining credit level and energy consumption rate to be
seen.
 In the event of credit expiring, the meter will disconnect the customer’s
electricity supply and also the mains supply to the customer interface
unit.

D000055702 en Draft b – E460 Series 1 IDIS G3-PLC 1-Phase – MCA110x R G3 D1.2 00 x S1 – User Manual © Landis+
28/68 P160 Customer Interface Unit

To cater for the disconnection of mains power due to expiry of credit, the
customer interface unit is fitted with a battery to enable supply reconnection
after entering a valid credit token.

 To avoid confusion under this supply disconnected condition, it is

recommended that the customer interface unit remains connected to the
mains socket outlet, with the outlet switch in the on position to allow PLC
communications back to the meter via the electrical wiring of the house.

4.6.3 Battery
Although the customer interface unit is normally connected to the
customer’s mains power supply - it needs to have an alternate power
source in the event of credit expiring and the load switch of the meter
disconnecting the power to the house.
Each customer interface unit is provided with a 9V, leak proof, alkaline
battery.
Whenever the customer interface unit is disconnected from the mains
supply, it continues to operate for another 30 seconds, at which point it
stores the last known meter status before entering into a “power-save”
mode to conserve battery energy.

 The Customer Interface Unit may be woken up at any stage by pressing

and holding the “Enter” on the keypad for a period of 3 seconds or longer.

 Ensuring the availability of a reliable battery supply is extremely important.

A clear and timeous warning is displayed if the battery capacity is getting
low. The battery must be replaced as soon as possible to avoid
inconvenience.

4.6.4 G3-PLC Network Management

The P160 customer interface unit is not dedicated to any particular meter
and it is therefore possible to use any customer interface unit with any
meter as long as it is paired to that meter.

 Before it can be used with a particular meter, it is necessary to ‘pair’ the

customer interface unit with its associated meter.

Pairing only needs to be done once, typically at the time of installation, and
there is no need for the customer to be aware of, or responsible for the
process.
To simplify the pairing process, new customer interface units are delivered
in an un-paired state. Immediately on powering up it, the P160 display will
display question marks (????) in the value field of the LCD display. This
indication shows that the P160 is expecting the field technician to enter the
serial number of the meter with which the P160 CIU is to be paired.

Segments repeatedly step from left-to-right at short intervals.

4.6.4.3 Interrupting PLC Communications

If at any time the user wishes to terminate an in-process PLC data
exchange he may do so by pressing and holding the <Del/Esc> key for a
few seconds.

4.6.4.4 Successful Pairing

On successful pairing, the Meter Number is displayed (scrolled) once in the
LCD VALUE field

Figure 13 (Above) Meter serial number scrolling in from right to left – this indicates
a successful pairing process

After the meter number is scrolled, the P160 reverts to normal operation
and will display the current status of the meter.

4.6.4.5 Un-pair sequence

This sequence is deliberately obtuse in order to avoid it being invoked
accidentally.
 Press and hold the information key (for 3 seconds or longer) until a
second beep is heard, then release information key and enter digits 4, 5
and 6 sequentially
 The currently paired 11-digit meter number is scrolled across the LCD
VALUE field
 Pressing the information key at any stage during the above sequence
will take the P160 out of this ‘un-pairing’ process and return it to the last
display state.
 Enter eleven zeros (0), once you have entered the last zero, the meter
will sound an audible beep, flash all LCD segments and then display
question marks in the value field to indicate that the P160 CIU may now
be paired to a new meter.

 The P160 displays ???? in the LCD VALUE field and is now ready to be
paired to a new meter

Figure 14 (Above), the P160 LCD shows question marks, this means that it can be
paired to a meter

4.6.4.6 PLC Communications Time-out

In normal operation, if a PLC communications timeout occurs during token
entry or info register request, the P160 will display “no conn” on the LCD
VALUE field, for 5 seconds
Then the LCD will go blank, except for the battery icon.

proportional consumption indication for the end user and is not to be used
for accuracy verification of the meter. Accuracy verification shall only be
performed using the E460 meter rate of consumption LED on the face of
the meter.

 Only energy values are sent from the E460 to the P160. During the
pairing process the E460 updates the P160 with the required
parameters personalised into the E460, namely the number of flashes
per kWh and the P160 performs the appropriate calculations to
determine the flash rate.
 Each display update message from the E460 contains the latest power
usage information.
The P160 Rate LED is flashed in different colours, depending on the
remaining credit level
– Green = above high credit threshold
– Yellow = between low and high credit thresholds
– Red = below low credit threshold

 In post-payment mode the RATE LED will always be red.

4.8.3 Delete / Escape / Backspace key

This multi-function key serves as backspace key to correct token entry, an
Escape key to exist certain functions and a re-call key the last token
(should it not have been successful, or as a useful tool for the field
technician when meter test tokens would like to be repeatedly used and to
save time in re-entering these tokens)
Prepayment tokens are entered into the meter by keying in the numbers
printed on the credit token via the keypad. The numbers entered are
displayed on the LCD as they are being entered and scroll from right to left,
with a space between every fourth digit for ease of viewing.

 Incorrect entries can be corrected with the delete / backspace key, which
when pressed, removes the rightmost digit on the LCD with each press.
Two backspace key presses in quick succession will clear the entire entry.

When entering an information register number into the CIU keypad, the
register number is displayed in the index field. Pressing the delete /
backspace key will allow you to make corrections to the desired information
register to be accessed.

4.8.4 Recall (2nd Function Del/ Esc)

The recall key is a dual function key shared by the Delete / Escape /
Backspace and it is activated when pressing 2nd Function and then Del/Esc
key.
This function calls up the last token entered into the CIU keypad and allows
the user to re-send the token to the meter.

 This is most useful for field technicians who enter non meter specific STS
test tokens and would like to repeatedly carry out the test without re-
entering the test token

4.8.5 Enter / Power ON Key

The enter key has two main functions – firstly to wake up the P160 when it
is operating on battery supply and secondly, to execute an information or
second function command and return the value associated with the
command

 To wake up the P160 when operating under battery power, press and hold
the ENTER key for a few seconds. An audible beep will heard, all segments
on the LCD will be displayed and then the LCD will flash to display the last
known state of the meter.

Alternatively, if an information register is being accessed, then typically the

user would press the Information Key, enter the desired register (e.g. 000)
and then press the ENTER key. Once the ENTER key has been pressed,
the CIU will retrieve the information from information register 000
Should the scroll keys now be used to step to information register 001, then
pressing ENTER again will return the information from register 001 and so
on..

4.11 General Display Information

4.11.1 Outdated display data
When the P160 wakes up on battery, it cannot initially know whether its
current display data is still valid or not.
Therefore, when the P160 wakes up (on battery OR mains), the previous
info (numeric values and icons), will be flashing for a few seconds

 The flashing of the LCD indicate that the data is not current and will be
updated as soon as the P160 can make contact with the meter to verify or
update the display data

This will be followed by the scrolling bar display, until a display update
message is received from the E460.

4.11.2 Operating Display List

The E460 meter has a pre-defined list of Operating Display List registers
associated with it (set up in dotMAP meter software tool) – the data for the
selected registers is then pushed to the P160 and will automatically scroll
on the P160 display at a frequency set up in dMAP tool

 A maximum number of 10 entries may be selected for the operating display

list – this is configured in the dMAP meter software tool

4.11.3 Standard Display List

The E460 meter has a pre-defined list of Standard Display List registers
associated with it (set up in dotMAP meter software tool) – the data for the
selected registers is then pushed to the P160 and will be accessible to the
end user when the scroll up and down keys on the P160 are pressed

 This display mode is entered by pressing either the <SCROLL UP> or

<SCROLL DOWN> keys and the register values may then be manually
cycled by means of the <SCROLL UP> and <SCROLL DOWN> keys.

After a predefined timeout period the display reverts to displaying the

Operating Display List.
If the Standard Display List is empty (no entries) then pressing the
<SCROLL UP> or <SCROLL DOWN> keys shall have no effect.

 A maximum number of 10 entries may be selected for the standard display

list – this is configured in the dMAP meter software tool

“Information Mode” allows a user to select a particular information register
to be temporarily displayed on the P160’s LCD.

 Note that info register numbers are not necessarily assigned contiguously
and there may be gaps in the numbering sequence

“Info Mode” is entered when the user presses the information key
As soon as the information key is pressed the P160 goes into “Info Mode”,
displays “Inf” in the leftmost digits of the INDEX field and the VALUE field
displays three rows of dotted line

Figure 32 (Above) The LCD display in the information mode after you have
pressed the information key

Once you have entered the information mode, enter by a 3-digit (with
leading zeroes) for the desired information register number followed by the

As you enter the info register number this is scrolled (from right to left) into
the rightmost digits of the LCD INDEX field.

 In order to correct or backspace the register value you are entering into the
index field, press the <Del/Esc> key

When the <ENTER> key is pressed the P160 requests the relevant register
object data from the E460 and displays the “wait symbol i.e. row of dotted

Meter Configuration and Update 61/68

5 Meter Configuration and Update

The initial configuration of the meter is defined when ordering the meter
from Landis+Gyr. Configuration files can be uploaded to the AMM system
for automatic configuration after the meter is installed to the system.
The configuration ID can be read from the meter by the metering system.
The setting of parameters and installation of firmware updates can be done
remotely from the AMM system, or locally through the optical port using the
.MAP120 Parameter Editor (see also .MAP120 Parameter Editor and AMM
system documentation).

5.1 Supply Control Switch Control

The E460 meter has an integrated supply control switch to connect or
disconnect power to the customer premises. The supply control switch can
be controlled:
 Manually, with the integrated Supply Control button or via an external
manual reconnect button on the P160 Customer Interface Unit
 Remotely, from the AMM system
 Locally, with DLMS commands via the optical port or when the power
limit has been exceeded

Supply control switch may be used as a main switch

Do not use the supply control switch as a main switch for installation or
maintenance purposes. The supply control switch is not equipped with a
thermal and/or short-circuit protection device.

The state of the supply control switch is displayed on the P160 display

6 Maintenance
6.1 E460 Service
The E460 meter has no serviceable parts.
Device service is available from your local Landis+Gyr representative.

6.2 P160 Battery Replacement

The battery of the P160 is the only use replaceable component.

 The recommended battery for use in the P160 is an ALKALINE (leak proof)
9 Volt (6LR61 type) battery

6.3 Battery Recycling and Disposal

Recycling batteries keeps heavy metals out of landfills and the air.
Batteries contribute to many potentially hazardous compounds to the
municipal solid waste stream, including zinc, lead, nickel, alkaline,
manganese, cadmium, silver, and mercury.

 Do not incinerate, Do not disassemble, Do not dispose of in a fire.

Locate a disposal receptacle near you and dispose of in the proper manner.

6.4 Troubleshooting
If the meter is not operating correctly, check the error displays and LEDs
If there are problems with the meter operation, the following points should
be checked first:
1. Is mains voltage present (check display of meter)?
2. Is the PLC device communication status OK?
3. Is the meter visibly damaged?
4. Is there any error code displayed (code F.F)?
The error codes are described in section 6.4.1 “Error Codes”.

6.4.1 Error Codes

The meter performs regular internal self-tests. If a problem is detected
during self-test, an error code is displayed.
Errors are classified to error categories depending on their severity:
 Critical errors
 Communication errors
 Other errors

Critical Errors Critical errors indicate severe problems, but the device can still operate.
However, the data measured and stored in the meter may be corrupted and
it is recommended that meters showing critical errors are returned to the
Landis+Gyr service centre.
If the device is displaying the F.F register with an error and a blinking alarm
symbol, there is a critical error.
The F.F register will continue to be displayed until the error register is
cleared. If the error register is not cleared, the failure code can be viewed
through the communications interface.
Critical errors can only be cleared via communication with a reset
command. In order to reset, the required access right must be set during
parameterisation.

 F.F register is not cleared with power cycling or button press

Power cycling will not clear the F.F register.

Communication Due to the temporary nature of communication errors, they do not cause
Errors the F.F register to be displayed. However, communication errors do get
stored in the error register. They are cleared when communication is
restored. Communication errors do not usually require meter replacement.
Other Errors These errors do not cause the F.F register to be automatically shown on
the display, but are stored in the error register. The meter continues normal
operation and does not usually have to be replaced.

6.4.1.1 Representation of Error Codes

The error code is divided into four groups of two digits.
Each digit of the error code represents four errors (i.e. four bits of the error
register). The status of the four bits is shown in hexadecimal code, i.e. the

D000055702 en Draft b – E460 Series 1 IDIS G3-PLC 1-Phase – MCA110x R G3 D1.2 00 x S1 – User Manual © Landis+
64/68 Maintenance

single digits may show values between 0 (no error message set) and F (all
four error messages set).

Error codes are added up

 Since all errors are shown in hexadecimal code, a single error can appear
in various ways depending on the presence of other errors.

Example:
Two errors are shown as: FF 01000200
Another two errors occur: FF 02000800
The register reads: FF 03000A00
