ABSTRACT

Aim and objectives: To compare t he clinical efficacy (haemodynamic changes and vent ilator
paramet ers) and safet y profile of I-gel wit h Endot racheal t ube for volume-cont rolled vent ilat ion during
laparoscopic cholecyst ectomy.

Materials and methods: T his Hospit al-based prospect ive observat ional St udy was done among pat ient s
undergoing laproscopic cholecyst ectomy at a t ert iary care hospit al. T he st udy populat ion was divided
into 2 groups of 30 pat ient s each. Group 1 consist ed of pat ient s undergoing Laparoscopic
cholecyst ectomy under General Anaest hesia using I-gel to secure t he airway  and Group 2consist ed of
Laparoscopic cholecyst ectomy under general anaest hesia using Endot racheal t ube(ET T ).
Haemodynamic changes, vent ilator paramet ers and complicat ion were recorded at different t ime
int ervals.

Results: T he mean Heart rat e, mean Systolic blood pressure, mean Diastolic blood pressure and mean
end t idal carbon dioxide (ET CO2) aft er placement , at 15 minut es, 30 minut es, 45 minut es, aft er removal
and 5 minut es aft er removal were found to be significant ly higher among Endot racheal t ube group
compared to t he I-Gel group. T he Mean leak pressure at insert ion, 10 minut es aft er Pneumoperitoneum
and prior to release of Pneumoperitoneum was significant ly more among Endot racheal t ube compared to
I-Gel.
Conclusion: In t erms of hemodynamic st abilit y, leak pressures, and post -operat ive discomfort , I-gel
offers a superior, safe, and dependable alt ernat ive to endot racheal int ubat ion in pat ient s undergoing
laparoscopic cholecyst ectomy.
