Flora:
The forests of Channapatna are primarily composed of dry deciduous trees such as
Terminalia arjuna, Tectona grandis, Acacia spp., Azadirachta indica, and Cassia
fistula. Other prominent trees in the region include Albizia amara, Dalbergia
latifolia, Hardwickia binata, and Lagerstroemia lanceolata. The region is also
known for its dense bamboo groves, particularly Bambusa arundinacea and
Dendrocalamus strictus.

The undergrowth in the forest is dominated by shrubs and herbs such as Adhatoda
vasica, Andrographis paniculata, and Gymnema sylvestre. The forest floor is covered
with grasses such as Saccharum spontaneum and Eragrostis spp.

Fauna:
Channapatna is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including several endangered
species. The forests of Channapatna are home to a large population of Indian
elephants. Other mammals found in the region include Bengal tigers, leopards,
Indian bison, sambar deer, spotted deer, and wild boar. The forests are also home
to several species of primates such as the common langur and bonnet macaque.

The birdlife in the region is also diverse, with over 200 species recorded in the
forests of Channapatna. Some of the notable species include the Indian roller, grey
francolin, black-naped monarch, pied kingfisher, and Indian peafowl. The forests
are also home to several species of reptiles and amphibians, including various
species of snakes and frogs.
