ACTION RESEARCH

Title : Student’s Absenteeism in relation to Student’s Academic Performance in English 9(B ) Subject.

Time Frame: JUNE 2017- OCTOBER 2017

I. Situation:
Based on the result of NAT performance for the last three consecutive years in Cantubod NHS , it was
revealed that the performance of the students last school year decreased due to their frequent absenteeism in the
class.

II. Statement of Research Problem:

General Objective:
The program aims to utilize strategic ways in monitoring Grade 9(B) student’s attendance to improve
student’s academic performance in English subject.

Specific Objectives :

1. Compare the students grades who are always present to the grades of students who are frequently absent in
the class.
2. Decreasing students absenteeism through strategic reward system
3. Monitoring students attendance and their scores in each activity given by the teacher.

III. Generation of Alternative Solutions

1. Identifying students who are always absent and present in the class discussion.
2. Student-centered agreements.
3. Counseling approaches.
4. Conduct peer tutorial and informal discussion of the lessons in the English subject
5. Conduct Non-traditional methods like remedial and special classes.
6. Home Visitation.
7. Conduct Post test.
8. Analyze the Test results.

Based on the data presented above it is realized that constant monitoring in Students Attendance helped
improved the Academic Performance of the Grade 9(B) students in English subjects.

VII. Reflections:

1. Closure monitoring on Students Attendance must be retained.


2. Teachers must used precise teaching approaches to motivate the students to attend their regular classes.
3. Teachers must used suitable IM’s capable to the students needs.
4. Teachers must gave appropriate time for special and remedial classes to help students increase their
academic performance.
