1. ABOUT THE COURSE:

a. Brief Description: This is an introductory course on Business Communication with a focus on
persuasive communication in public speaking exercises and written messages offered to PGP-I
students to improve managerial effectiveness. The objective will be to develop and enhance
communication knowledge and skills in a managerial/business context. Since public speaking
involves the development and display of specific skills (some of these skills involve physical
capabilities), the course will emphasize ongoing theoretical and practical applications for
sustained skill development. The linkage between the strategic role of communications and
the performance of persuasion skills will be demonstrated – for example, the implementation
of strategic decisions within an organization may be contingent on a due enactment of
managerial communications. The pedagogy will have to cater to the kinds of knowledge/skills
that the sessions will provide; broadly the sessions may be categorized under the following
heads:
i. Conceptual sessions (a brief conceptual understanding may be provided with
reference to industry examples and/or the work experience of students)
ii. Public Speaking Skills will be developed by conducting specific classroom exercises
during which certain rubrics/criteria/techniques will be demonstrated and/or
discussed

b. Teaching Learning Method: The classes will predominantly be conducted in the workshop
mode. Students are encouraged to read, watch, and listen on a range of interests and share
during the sessions. The sharing not only helps others learn something new but also synthesize
new knowledge in the minds of the one explaining.
