About Caterpillar VIMSTM and VIMSpc

Caterpillar's VIMSTM system is a powerful tool for machine management that provides
operators, service personnel and managers information on a wide range of vital machine
functions. Numerous sensors are integrated into the vehicle design. If VIMS TM detects an
impeding or abnormal condition in any of the machine's systems, it will alert the operator
and instruct them to take appropriate action, whether it's modifying machine operation,
notifying the shop of needed maintenance, or performing a safe shutdown of the machine.
This improves availability, component life and production while reducing both repair cost
and the risk of a catastrophic failure. On Caterpillar Mining Trucks and large Wheel
Loaders, VIMS TM also includes production and performance information. It records the
various elements of the truck cycle: load time, travel loaded, dump time, and travel empty,
along with delay times.

VIMSpc is the off-board software which interacts with VIMS TM to retrieve the recorded data
and create useful reports and charts. These reports lead to intelligent analysis and better
decision making for a more efficient operation, lowering the cost per ton.

Following are the main functionalities of VIMSpc:

 View Machine Status, Real-Time Data, & Truck Payload
 Download data stored on VIMS modules
 Activate/Deactivate Data Logger
 Calibrate Truck Payload
 View Recorded Data by creating reports and graphs.

Main Functionalities:
VIMSpc's main functionalities are provided by clicking on one of the buttons on the left side of the
main dialog window. This section provides a high-level overview of each functionality. More details
can be found in the related sections in this document.

Connect: Establish a connection to machine VIMS ECM. After a connection is made, this button
will change to "Disconnect" to allow disconnecting from the machine.

Status: Only enabled when VIMSpc is connected to a machine. This button will display various

information about the VIMS ECM which is currently connected to. The exact information displayed
is dependent on the machine model and VIMS system on the machine, but it typically includes
machine serial number, service meter hour and VIMS software/config part number.

Download: Only enabled when VIMSpc is connected to a machine. This button will bring up a page
which allows user to download VIMS data files from the machine onto the local hard-drive.

Merge: Once the VIMS data files are downloaded, they need to be merged into VIMSpc database
before the information can be viewed. This button allows user to merge VIMS files into VIMSpc
database.

Reports: Once the VIMS files are merged, reports and graphs can be created. This button will bring
up the multi-tab dialog window to view each type of VIMS data.

Database: This button provides database maintenance functions, such as deleting data, backing-up
the data and restoring from a saved database file.

Settings: This button will bring up a multi-tab dialog window to allow user to change various
settings.

Configure: This button allows view/change VIMS configuration files for VIMS ABL system. For
VIMS 3G system, it allows user to upload config file to the machine or download it from the
machine.

Real Time: Only enabled when VIMSpc is connected. This button allows user to view parameter
values in real-time.

Data Logger: Only enabled when VIMSpc is connected. This button allows user to view and change
datalogger status.

Help: Bring up this help document.

Exit: Close VIMSpc
