Write a sample report applying the
principles of report writing styles.
Report
A report is a document that
presents information in an
organized format for a specific
audience and purpose.
Report Classifications
Formal Report
a structured and comprehensive
document that presents detailed
information and findings on a specific
topic or issue necessary to make
decisions.

Informal Report

presents information, analysis, or


recommendations in a less structured
and more conversational manner.

Characteristics of a report
Presents information
Easily understood by the reader.
Uses numbered headings and subheadings.
Uses graphic illustrations.
May have an abstract or an executive summary.
Have not have references or bibliography.
Contains recommendations and/or appendices.
Types of a report

Progress Report
to give status of a certain project.
Sales Activity Report
detailed document that showcases the
performance of each sales activity that
occurs within a company
Personnel Evaluation
the process of assessing potential and
employed personnel.
Financial Report

to track, analyse and report a business


income over specific time periods.
Feasibility Report
To determine the feasibility of solutions
or project paths and choose the best
option.
Literature Review
The writing process of summarizing,
synthesizing and/or critiquing the
literature on specific topic. Includes a
critical evaluation of the material; this is
why it is called a literature review rather
than a literature report.
Credit Report
A summary or statement of your
financial transactions or credit
history.
Help lenders measure your level of
credit risk, or the likelihood you’ll pay
your bills on time.
Analytical Report

Present results, analyze those results and


draw conclusions based on those results.
Research Report
The most widely used report, usually in
university levels.
Case Study Analysis
Requires an investigation to a problem,
examine the alternative solutions then
propose the most effective solution using
supporting evidence.
Includes real life examples.
Parts of the report
Title page
Name of the report in all caps.
Receivers name, title, and
organization.
Writers/ authors.
Date submitted
(month/date/year).
The author/s and their
organization.
Table of Contents
Show the beginning page
number where each report
heading appears in the
report.
Executive Summary
Summarize the key points
of the report. Provides the
key recommendations and
conclusions
Introduction
Briefly describe the
context. Describe the issue
or problem and questions
to be reported on.
Method/Methodology
all types of research provides Goal for
each piece of research. (What is your
question/hypothesis?)
Findings
Is to supply proofs for conclusions. Discuss,
analyze, and interpret every finding.
Arrange the findings in logical segments
that follow your outline, same order as
discussed in methodology.
Conclusion
Relating the conclusions to the
report, issue or problem.
Giving the definition or hypothesis of
the report.
Recommendations
Make specific numbered
suggestions for options to
solve the report problem.
Avoid conditional words s/a
"maybe" and "perhaps".
Describe how the
recommendations may be
implemented.
Arrange in order, from most
important to least important.
Bibliography
List of references or sources
used in creating the report.
