Specialization: Finance and Investment Major Teaching Hours/Week: 3 Hrs.

2- Overall aims of the On the completion of this course the students should be able
Course: to:
1. Understand the economic functions of Financial Institutions
in the economy, systemic risk, and financial regulations.
2. Identify the main types of risk confronted by financial
institutions; Apply relevant techniques to measure and
manage those risks.

3- Intended Learning Outcomes:

a- Knowledge and By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
Understanding 1. Have an overview of the financial system and the role of the
financial institutions.
2. Understand the main regulations and operations of financial
institutions within such regulations.
3. Recognize vital topics such as asset-liability management,
liquidity management, and bank capital management.
4. Identify the main types of risk confronted by financial
institutions, and apply relevant techniques to measure and
manage those risks.
5. Engage in informed discussion of some of the contemporary
issues in Egyptian and international context, affecting
financial institutions and their owners, managers,
employees, and customers.

b- Intellectual Skills
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Define and address business problems, and propose
effective evidence-based solutions, through the application
of rigorous analysis and critical thinking.
2. Know how to evaluate the performance of financial
institutions such as commercial banks, investment
companies, and mutual funds.
