ANCIENT INDIA SCIENTIST & THEIR

DISCOVERIES

1. in school we all have been told the story of how newton was
inspired to formulate the universal law of gravitation when an
apple fell from a tree the world believes that newton was the first
to discover the gravitational concepts you will be surprised to
know that the theory of gravitation was created 1200 years
before newton by an indian Mathematician
bhaskaracharya was one of the most prominent
astronomer and mathematician of 12th century he is also
considered as the greatest mathematician from the medieval era
he is known amongst the theorists for discovering principle of
astronomy and calculus. siddhanta shiromani at the age of 36 in
1150 a.d. he also contributed to the surya siddhanta that was
originally written by aryabhut the first principle of gravity was
stated by bhaskaracharya and not newton bhaskaracharya stated
the law of gravity in the book surya sardantha in 11thcentury does
the law actually exist even before the birth of sir isaac newton
newton was born in 16th century here are some of the schlokes
from his book surya siddhanta that mentions how gravitation
works surya sadhantha 12th chapter 32 shlok “madhye samantandasya
bhugolo vyomni tisthati bibhranah paramam saktim brahmano dharanatmikam ’’this
means the spherical earth stands at the center of earth in spyace
due to the dharnatmikam shakti which prevent earth from falling
away and help it to stand firm in the book sithantha shiromani
6 th shlok
“ akrsta saktisca mahi taya yat svastham guru svabhimukham svasktya
akrsyate tatpatativa bhati same samantat kva patatviyam khe ’’the shlok
means every object fall on the ground due to earth's force of
attraction this force allowed the sun earth moon and heavenly
body to stay in the orbit bhaskaracharya wrote in the book named
lilavathi where he answered a question posed by his little
daughter in this book he answered his daughter's lilavati's curious
questions in this book he explained the earth gravitational force
as gurudwa karshan shakti there is a mutual attraction between
the planet and this allow them to hold themselves firmly in the
space he also mentioned the shape of earth while answering his
daughter's question bhaskaracharya states that what we see is
not the reality earth may appear flat but it is spherical in nature
he further explains the theory by stating if you draw a very big
circle and look at one fourth of its circumference you see it as a
straight line but in the true sense it is a circle similarly earth is a
spherical in shape this historical mentions are the proof that law
of gravity was first discovered in india by bhaskar Acharya his law
predates the law of newton he did not wait for the apple to fall
everybody knows about newton's law of gravity but we don't have
any idea about bhaskaracharya law of gravity

2. From our childhood, we all had been taught that the Law Of
Motion is given by Sir Issac Newton but this is not the complete
truth. Law of Motion is not given by Newton first, it was one of the
great Indian Hindu Rishi, Acharya Kanad. Acharaya kannad gave the
law of motion vaishesika sutra in 600bc .1800 years before when
newton first presented his law of motion in principia mathematica in
1687 . Acharya kannad wrote in vaishesika sutra
translation : the law stated that an object at the rest tends to stay at
rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same
speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalance
force
After 1800 year newton stated : change of motion is due to
impressed force

Translation : change of motion is proportional to impressed

force .force and is in the direction of the force
NEWTON : the change of motion due to proportional motive force
impressed and made in the direction of right line in which the force
is impressed
Translation :action and reaction are equal and opposite
Newton : to every action there is equal and opposite reaction

Acharya kannad other theories

Acharya kannad was a genius in philosophy . he was classified all the
object of creation into nine elements namely: earth ,water light ,
wind ,time ,space ,mind , soul . he says ‘ every object of creation is
made of atoms which in turn connect with each other to form
molecules’ his statement ushered in the atomic theory for the first
time ever in world ,nearly 2500 years before john dalton . he also
theorized that gurutva ( gravity ) was responsible for the falling of
object on the earth thus he was the first person to identify and
describe gravity much ahead of newton

2. the pythagoras theorem is studied by almost every high school or

college student all over the world pythagoras a greece
philosopher is said to be the originator of the theorem sometime
during 6th century bce the so called pythagoras theorem connects
the 3 side of a right angle triangle according to the Pythagoras
theorem the square of the length of hypotenuse of right triangles
equals to the sum of square of length of the other two sides but
actually it was bodhian who discovered the pythagoras theorem
bodhiana a mathematician who lived in ancient india centuries
before pythagoras has stated the so-called pythagoras theorem
and has also given a geometrical proof of Pythagoras theorem for
an isosceles right angle triangle in his vedic sanskrit text called
bodhiana sutra

bhodhyana sulupsudra is also one of the oldest book an advanced

mathematics the actual shlok in in bodhiana sulapsutra that
describes the pythagoras theorems interestingly bodhyana used a
rope as an example in the above shloka which can be translated as a
rope stretched along the length of a diagonal produces an area
which the vertical and horizontal sides make together the bodhian
sutra are a group of vedic sanskrit text which covers dharma daily
ritual mathematics and is one of the oldest dharma related textbook
of hinduism that has survived into modern age from the first
millennial bce they belongs to the tethria branch of krishna-yachar
veda school and are amongst the earliest texts of this channel the
bodhiana sulapsutrab consist of six text the srautasutra the
karmantasutra ,the dwaida sutra , the grihyasutra, dharma sutra and
the sulbasutra the bodhian sulab sudra is noted for containing
several early mathematical results including an approximation of
square root of two and the statement of pythagoras theorem the
bodhihan sulab sutra provide the rule in 1700 bce for a right angle
triangle there is a curious similarity between bodhiana and
pythagoras on the so-called pythagoras theorem it is important to
understand that bodhian's work was compiled at least around 1700
bce while the pythagoras theorem was compiled after one thousand
years around sixth century there are indicators that pythagoras
perhaps came in contact with india or indian wisdoms pythagoras
lived from 570 to 495 bce that is for about 75 years several indian
scholars and foreign scholars such as albert berg and others say that
pythagoras visited and lived in india where he learned indian
philosophy and sciences there is a quote by francoise voltaire the
french philosopher to talk about contribution of india it goes as
follows i am convinced that everything has come down to us from
the banks of ganga astronomy astrology etc it is important to note
that some 2500 years ago at least the pythagoras went from samos
to ganga to learn geometry but he would certainly not have
undertaken such a strange journey had the reputation of the
brahman signs not been long established in europe
