3 Must-Have Feet for Quilters

Many quilters use a narrow scope of their sewing machines’ capabilities to make beautiful
quilts. They create colorful works of art, often using only a straight stitch. From piecing
to quilting to binding, the process can run smoothly by using the correct tools for the job.
The three presser feet below are helpful to any quilter, from the novice to the experienced,
resulting in professional-looking quilts every time!

Quarter Inch Foot

A cornerstone of patchwork patterns, the quarter inch seam allowance
is the key to making sure that all the fabric squares, rectangles, and
triangles fit together to make your favorite pattern. Aligning the edge of
the fabric to the side of the foot not only adds precision and accuracy
to your piecing, it actually speeds up the process, giving you time to
make more quilts!

Walking Foot
Once the quilt top is pieced and it’s time for quilting, the challenge is
managing the layers that make up the quilt. When stitched with an all-
purpose presser foot, the backing, batting and quilt top tend to shift and
move, creating puckers as you sew. The walking foot acts as a second
feed dog on top of the quilt, feeding all the layers at the same time for
beautiful stitching results!

Free-Motion Quilting Foot

Free-motion stitching gives freedom to your sewing and to your quilt. You
move the fabric and stitch any motif, any pattern, and in any direction.
The feed dog is lowered and the stitch length is determined by you.
Practice to develop a rhythm that gives you even, consistent stitches.
You can truly custom quilt, creating a one-of-a-kind project.
