Appendix 4-8 Debugging Procedures of Double-bridge Anti-collision

1 Double-bridge Anti-collision Introduction

This appendix mainly is to introduce principles and debugging method of double-bridge

anti-collision of the boarding bridge. When delivering boarding bridge of the CIMC-Tianda, all
parameters on double-bridge anti-collision have been set completely, so it requires no special
maintenance by user. However, if the detecting sensors related to anti-collision control such as
tunnel angle, cabin angle and bridge length are required to be replaced or are under improper set,
it shall debug the double-bridge anti-collision function again before normal operation.

2 Double-bridge Anti-collision Principles

The double-bridge anti-collision is to calculate minimal distance among theoretical
locations of the bridges in the station site by using the tunnel angle (φ), tunnel length (L) and
cabin (α) to achieve the purpose of anti-collision alarm.
If the two neighbored tunnel angles (φ) are known, it can calculate relative angle of the
tunnel and calculate relative locations of the cabin based on respective tunnel length L. It can
calculate polar coordinates location of projection of the cabin by using different cabin α and thus
it can calculate minimal distance S of vertical line between two bridges. When S is less than the
set safety distance, the outer boarding bridge will be restricted to turn left and the inner boarding
bridge will be restricted to turn right. The anti-collision PLC can send the tunnel angle (φ),
tunnel length (L), cabin (α) and distance S to PLC of the boarding bridge via network
communication.
Of which, position and measurement of the inner and outer bridge can see Figure 1 and
Figure 2:

3.1 Primary value set of detecting elements of the tunnel angle, cabin angle and
bridge length

1) Set of primary value of the tunnel angle and cabin angle (see Appendix 4-6) of this manual).
2) After extend the bridge fully for once, check whether the tunnel length is the same with the
value displayed in the touch screen.

3.2 Input of anti-collision parameters

Interface of “set of anti-collision parameters” in below figure has been set before delivering
the boarding bridge and user can ignore it.

3.3 Testing of inner bridge collision the outer bridge

1) “STOP DISTANCE” test: outer bridge does not move, drive the inner bridge approach to
cabin, lifting structure, tunnel and special protrusion (such as PCA air hose and 400Hz cable
rising unit) of the outer bridge. When the boarding bridge stops movement due to
anti-collision alarm, measure minimal distance of two bridge, derivation between it and the
set “STOP DISTANCE” of the bridge shall be no more than ±300mm (or ±200mm for the
M2/U1). Or otherwise, it shall check whether the parameter table stated in 3.2 changes.
2) “Deceleration distance” testing: outer bridge does not move, drive the inner bridge approach
to the cabin, lifting structure and tunnel of the outer bridge, the inner bridge shall reduce the
speed and then stop, or otherwise, it shall check whether the “deceleration distance” is set
correctly.
Note: the “STOP DISTANCE” and “deceleration distance” have been set when delivering the
boarding bridge, it only can be modified with permit of the CIMC-Tianda, or otherwise it may
cause “error alarm under normal work” or “no alarm when colliding the bridge” of the boarding
bridge!

3.4 Testing of outer bridge colliding the inner bridge

The inner bridge does not move, the outer bridge moves and other is the same with “testing
of inner bridge colliding the outer bridge”.

3.5 Collision testing of two bridges

Extend the inner and outer bridge to parallel location of two cabins and two persons drive the
inner and outer bridge to travel relatively at high speed. The boarding bridge will reduce the
speed and then stop. Measure minimal distance of two bridges, derivation between which and the
set “STOP DISTANCE” of the bridge shall be no more than ±400mm (or ±300mm for the
M2/U1). Or otherwise, it shall check whether the parameter table stated in 3.2 changes.

3.6 Simulation cabin and collision test of A380 bridge (option for A380 aircraft)

1) Determine locations of aircraft entrances of A380 in the station site. According to below
drawing, mark the M1, M2 and U1 on ground of the station site, which shall be entrance axial

points of the entrance M1, M2 and U1 in left side of the A380 aircraft respectively.

STOP BAR

2) Simulation docking with U1 Bridge: drive the U1 Bridge from reserved parking place to the
aircraft location, front end of the cabin of the U1 Bridge shall be parallel with U1 point on the
station site and the cabin aligns with leading line of the aircraft. Height of the cabin is 8m.
3) Simulation docking with M2 Bridge: drive the M2 Bridge from reserved parking place to the
aircraft location, front end of the cabin of the M2 Bridge shall be parallel with the M2 point on
the station site and the cabin aligns with the leading line of aircraft. Height of the cabin is
5.2m. During the whole movement of the M2 Bridge, especial when approaching to the U1
door, the bridge operation shall be smooth and the software anti-collision speed-limitation is
normal, but it shall not cause M2 Bridge cannot reach to the simulation connecting location
due to software anti-collision alarm. Or otherwise, it shall check whether the parameter table
stated in 3.2 changes.
4) Testing of M2 Bridge colliding the U1 Bridge: U1 Bridge does not move and let the M2
Bridge approach to the U1 Bridge. When the boarding bridge stops movement due to
anti-collision alarm, measure minimal distance of two bridges, derivation between which and
the set “STOP DISTANCE” of the bridge shall be no more than ±200mm. Or otherwise, it
shall check whether the parameter table stated in 3.2 changes.
