ELIAS VERGARA CORDOVA

He was born in Yungay at the end of the 19th


century. On July 17, 1932, he was appointed Chief
of the Urban Guard to defend the city from the
excesses and violence of the Aprista movement.
The senior staff of the Guardia Urbana was made up
of: Enrique Coello Vinatea (Captain), German
Jaramillo. Eduardo Hudson, Francisco Mejia,
Alfredo Bambaren, Alfredo Percovich, Rodolfo
Ángeles, Lucio Sotelo, Secundino Ramírez,
Francisco Handabaka, Víctor M. Philipps, Domingo
Nieto and Víctor Suárez (Parish Priest).
EMILIA VINATEA, was born in Yungay at the end
of the 19th century. In 1940, she donated a piece of
land in the center of the city for the construction of
a food market, with the condition that her income be
used for the funds of the Colegio Nacional Santa
Inés de Yungay.
