Cricket 

is the most popular sport in India by far, and is played almost


everywhere in the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is
the governing body of Indian cricket and conduct all domestic tournaments and
select the members Indian national cricket team. The Indian Premier League, a
Twenty20 tournament where various city franchises compete in a style similar to
club football, is one of the biggest sporting leagues and the biggest cricketing
league in the world. The Indian cricket team is one of the most successful
cricket teams in the world, having won 2 ICC World Cups, 1 ICC World
Twenty20, 2 ICC Champion's Trophies and finished runners up in the inaugural
edition of the ICC World Test Championship. Cricket is an important part
of Indian culture and top players, like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS
Dhoni and Rohit Sharma often attain celebrity status and are some of the most
influential figures in the country.

In field hockey, there are 11 players in each team. The objetive of the game is
to score more goals tan the opposing team by hitting the ball past the
goalkeeper and across the goal line. Players aren´t allowed to kick, hold or
carry the ball. They use wooden hockey sticks intead. In the beginning, the
Indian team was invencible, taking home six Olympic medals. More hockey
medals than any other team in the world. They also won the 1975 World Cup
tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. But after 1980, they lost their
supremacy, mainly because of a change in the rules. Today, field hockey is
much more popular tan it used to be, both in India and other countries.

Kabaddi is a contact team sport. Played between two teams of seven players,


the objective of the game is for a single player on offence, referred to as a
"raider", to run into the opposing team's half of a court, touch out as many of
their defenders as possible, and return to their own half of the court, all without
being tackled by the defenders, and in a single breath. Points are scored for
each player tagged by the raider, while the opposing team earns a point for
stopping the raider. Players are taken out of the game if they are touched or
tackled, but are brought back in for each point scored by their team from a tags
or tackle. It is popular in the Indian subcontinent and other surrounding Asian
countries. Although accounts of kabaddi appear in the histories of ancient India,
the game was popularised as a competitive sport in the 20th century.
