ACKNOWLWDGEMENT
I take upon this opportunity to acknowledge the many people who have helped me a lot in
successful accomplishment of my project.
I am deeply indebted to my mentor Mr. Amit singh.
I further thank to my college for encouraging me for working on this project.
I owe my sincere gratitude towards Mr. Vijay Kumar sir (Head of Department of Mechanical
engineering) for enhancing my potential towards the subject of study.
Finally, I would like to wind up by paying my heartfelt thanks to all the resources that have
helped me in completing my project.

INTRODUCTION TO ANSYS
The ANSYS workbench environment is an intuitive up-front finite element analysis tool that is
used in conjuction with CAD system and Design modeler .ANSYS workbench is a software
environment for performing structural ,thermal analyses .This greatly helps project
management. You do not need worry about the individual files on disk (geometry, mesh etc).
Graphically, you can see at-a-glance how a project has been built. Because Workbench can
manage the individual applications AND pass data between them, it is easy to automatically
perform design studies (parametric analyses) for design optimisation.
1.2 OBJECTIVES-
Successful completion of the course will provide student with the ability prepare and
optimize their geometry for analysis and to use simulation to perform static structural
finite element analyses,as well as provide a brief introduction to thermal and model
analyses .
We will learn when it is appropriate to simplify ,or defeature CAD geometry ,how best to
accomplish it.
We will learn how to use the ANSYS workbench GUI ,how to interface with CAD
geometry, to how mesh the geometry diemension can readily changed.

2 PREPROCESSOR
Within the preprocessor the model is set up. It includes a number of steps and usually in the
following order:
Depending on whether the problem geometry is one, two or three dimensional, the
geometry consists of creating lines, areas or volumes. The key idea when building the
geometry like this is to simplify the generation of the element mesh. Hence, this step is
optional but most often used. Nodes and elements can however be created from
coordinates only.
2.2DEFINE MATERIALS-

2.4 GENERATE ELEMENT MESH –
The problem is discretized with nodal points. The nodes are connected to form finite
elements, which together form the material volume. Depending on the problem and
the assumptions that are made, the element type has to be determined. Common
element types are truss, beam, plate, shell and solid elements. Each element type may
contain several subtypes, e.g. 2D 4-noded solid, 3D 20-noded solid elements.
Therefore, care has to be taken when the element type is chosen. The element mesh
can in ANSYS be created in several ways. The most common way is that it is
automatically created, however more or less controlled. For example you can specify a
certain number of elements in a specific area, or you can force the mesh generator to
maintain a specific element size within an area. Right-click on Mesh and then click on
Generate Mesh.

2.5 EDIT AND ANALYSIS-
Specify End Time to 6E-4 s Change the Scope to Eulerian Bodies only (there is no need
to extend the Euler mesh to the cover the punch and die) .and then Reduce the Total
Cells f 250000 to 25000 (this is a simple model, so a very fine Euler mesh is not needed)

Explicit Dynamics to insert Displacement and then scope it to the Punch. Enter Tabular Data as follows
set up Displacement for X/Y/Z Components.
