Tom Hardy, President of Moon Plastics, will announce the layoff of 25% of employees at their Factory Street plant in Mars, Ohio at a press conference on April 10. Cheap plastic products from China have flooded the US market and lowered demand for Moon Plastic's products. Hardy stated that the Chinese manufacturers have much lower costs without environmental regulations, making it difficult for Moon Plastics to compete. Laid-off workers may be called back if business improves. This will be the first layoff in Moon Plastic's 15 years of business.

email Phone Moon Plastics Press Conference At a press conference held on Monday, April 10, Moon Plastics President Tom Hardy will announce the unfortunate layoff of a quarter of its employees from the Factory Street plant in Mars, Ohio. Inexpensive plastic products from China have flooded the U.S. market and lowered demand for the company’s products. “Our business has seen a sharp decline in the last six months. The Chinese manufacturers have much cheaper labor rates and no environmental costs, so their overhead is much lower than ours,” Hardy said. “It is tough to compete when you have higher fixed costs than your competitors.” Hardy stated that laid-off workers will be called back if business picks up. “Personally, this is tearing me up inside,” Hardy said. “This is the first time we had to lay off anyone in our 15 years of business.” The press conference will take place Monday, April 10 at 5 p.m. outside of the Factory Street plant.
