Study of Response without Compensation

AIM
To study the frequency response of a system without compensation

Setup Description
The set up consist of the uncompensated system. To signal sources- sine wave and square
wave. Phase angle meter to take readings of the respective phase angle between the given signal
input-output,Process or plant, gain block, power supply and amplifier.

THEORY
In this open loop system, we study the different performance specifications, effect on the
stability, transient response-tₚ , Ms(settling time, overshoot or phase and gain margins) and
steady state response eₛₛ.

The low-frequency region indicates the steady-state behaviour.

The medium frequency region indicates the relative stability.

The high frequency region indicates complexity.

PROCEDURE
1. Connect the sine wave source to the experimental unit without using any compensators.
2. Connect CRO across input and output and measure the voltage
3. From the low frequency end note the output voltage Vpp.
4. Prepare a table between input output volts, the gain margin in db and phase angle in
degrees.

CLOSE LOOP TRANSIENT RESPONSE (Process or Plant)

1. Connect the system with step signal. 1Vpp at the one input of the error detector is
available.
2. Adjust K₁(gain=1) to the value found from the plot (k=3.2 approx, for eₛₛ =0) gain raised
to 10 db/octave approx.Finely adjust K₁ for the required shape of the responses.Sketch it
upon the paper.
3. From the transient response measure maximum overshoot (Mₚ), steady state error (eₛₛ)
and the peak time (tₚ).

RESULT
The transient response of the system without the compensator is studied.
